I didn’t hear either my parents moving so I yelled out one last thing before opening the door and walking towards the car. “I’m going now. Either one of you come now or I’m driving there myself!”

I gave them three minutes, neither came out the door. So I made sure Alice was in her seat right and then got in, driving away towards Village Hospital.

Now:
The drive to Village Hospital was going to take around an hour or maybe more. We had been on the road for close to 20 minutes, I was little nervous at first but I soon got over it.

I know I shouldn’t be driving yet, being that I just woke up from a freaking coma that was caused by me driving. And by all means Alice should have been scared to be in the car with me again but yet neither of us were really bothered by it. Which was a good thing since our parents weren’t going to take us to get Kenza.

It was quiet in the car for a while leaving me to think that Alice had fallen asleep but upon a quick glance in the rearview mirror I saw that she was watching out the windows.

After a few more minutes of silence Alice started up a conversation. “Hey, Luke?” She asked quietly.

“Yeah Alice?” I answered with another quick glance in the mirror.

“Where will Kenza sleep?” That was a good question. I hadn’t thought about it yet. I was just focused on getting her there, not here she would sleep or where any of her stuff would go. We had no spare bedrooms and I doubt she would want to live on my couch.

“Where do you think she should sleep?” I asked her. The only places are mine and Alice’s rooms. I had the bigger room but Alice was a girl and I wasn’t sure which she would prefer.

“I think she should sleep in your room! Then you could be like boyfriend and girlfriend!” Alice said excitedly.

“That’s not how that works, Alice.” I said laughing. I couldn’t help but to laugh at her 7 year old logic.

“Oh,” I could hear the disappointment in her voice. “Then how does that work? Cause you guys should be!”

“I doubt we will, Alice. We’re just really great friends.” Thinking about being just friends hurt a little, which confused me. Why would it hurt to think about us being friends. And then I realized that maybe I was starting to like Kenza as more than a friend. But I can’t, at least not in real life, yet. I don’t even know if she is the same as she was in the coma.

Pushing that thought to the back of my mind I heard Alice talking again. “What did you say? I didn’t hear you.”

“I said ‘I hope you will! That would be so cool!’” I almost said ‘me too’ but I stopped myself in time. I wasn’t going to say anything about me liking Kenza until I knew for sure.

“So back to the sleeping arrangements,” I said changing the subject to avoid thoughts of me and Kenza as a couple. “I’ll ask her and let her decide where she wants to sleep. Sound good to you?” I asked Alice.

After that it was quiet almost the whole trip. Alice asked later on about Aviana but I didn’t know anything more to tell her than I had the last time we talked about her. I made plans to look at the Julia girls Facebook later after we were all home and Kenza and I had talked about the others and everything else we need talk about.

When we were almost to Village hospital I gave my phone to Alice and told her to text Kenza telling her we were almost there.

“She said she would be waiting out front by the main doors.” Alice told me, after I heard my phone go off letting me know I had a text.

Pulling up in front of the hospital I seen a girl standing there looking around. It was Kenza. She looked exactly as I remembered her. I put the car in park and turned around to show Alice but when I looked back she was already jumping out of the car to ran to Kenza. I followed suit and ran to Kenza also.

By the time I got to them, Kenza had Alice in her arms squeezing her tight.

As soon as Kenza heard me she put Alice down and wrapped her arms around me. “LUKE!!!!” She screamed while hugging me. Snaking my arms around her waist I squeezed her tight. It felt good to have her in my arms. I had missed her a lot, Even though it was technically only a few days, it felt super long with all that we went through.

We stood there like that for a while and only stopped when Alice interrupted us. “People are staring….can we go now?” She asked with a little panic. She’s never liked crowds or being the center of attention.

I pulled away from Kenza and laughed. “Yeah we can.” To Kenza I said, “Come on, we got a drive ahead of us.” I started after Alice who had started back towards the car already. Looking behind me I seen Kenza walking close to me.

Once we were all seated in the car; me driving, Kenza beside me, and Alice behind me, I started the drive home. Not far from the hospital Kenza asked if we could go to a storage locker and get some of her stuff. I agreed and headed there with directions from her.

In the storage locker was mostly furniture and other things that had been her parents in her house. We didn’t take much. Just some old clothes of her moms that Kenza could wear until we went shopping. Which we both needed to do because none of our old clothes fit anymore.

We talked almost the whole way back to my house. I told her everything I knew about the four of us being in the comas and about how my parents had acted when I asked if Kenza could come stay with us.

Kenza hadn’t liked that I went against my parents to let her stay but for once she was grateful for it and didn’t demand I take her back to the hospital.

She also told me everything I already didn’t know about that creepy girl May. After we talked about all that we just went to talking like friends.

As far as I could tell so far she was exactly as I remembered from the coma. I had asked her if I was the same as she remembered, which was a yes.

Alice also joined in our conversations every now and then, it was almost like it was in the comas except a few things like I had parents and she didn’t and that I didn’t have my own apartment and the most important is that the others weren’t with us.

When we were a little ways from home Alice reminded me that I needed to ask Kenza something.

“You have to ask me something?” She asked as her eyebrows scrunched together in confusion.

“Oh yeah!” I said. “We don’t have a spare room so you have a choice on where you sleep. Either on the couch, which I didn’t think you would want, my room, you can have the bed or we could figure something out, or you can share with Alice.”
