Dhammawitaya School – Nurse’s Room – 3:38 a.m.

“Hold him down!”

“I can’t! He’s burning up—”

“Don’t let him bite his tongue—Tae, hold his hand!”

Tae knelt beside Jet’s thrashing body, both hands gripping his, soaked in sweat and blood.

Jet’s jaw clenched, his breath rasping in shallow, snarled gulps. His eyes were fluttering—black veins snaking toward the iris.

“No, no, no—Jet, stay with me!” Tae’s voice cracked. “Please don’t go.”

“He’s transitioning,” Eli muttered, pacing near the bed. “But it’s slow. That’s… weird.”

Mew looked pale. “Weird like he might survive, or weird like he might explode?”

“Both.”

3:41 a.m.

Jet’s body suddenly stilled.

For one heartbeat…

Everyone held their breath.

Then—

His back arched.

A howl tore from his throat.

And—

His eyes turned completely black.

“JET!” Tae screamed.

But Jet didn’t attack.

He didn’t even look at them.

He looked through them.

“I can hear them…” he rasped, voice lower, doubled. “They’re whispering.”

Eli stepped forward slowly. “What are they saying?”

Jet blinked.

Then smiled faintly.

“…They’re afraid of me.”

3:44 a.m.

Jet sat upright.

No longer shaking. No longer dying.

Breathing normally.

His veins still black—but controlled. Tamed.

Tae stared at him, heart pounding.

“Jet… are you still you?”

Jet turned his head slowly.

And then…

He smirked.

“Who else would I be?”

Tae lunged into his arms.

“You asshole!” he sobbed. “I thought I lost you!”

Jet hugged him back, fiercely. “I thought you would. I thought I did.”

3:50 a.m. – Infirmary Hallway

Sol was leaning against the wall, arms crossed, watching.

“Is he safe?” he asked Eli.

Eli shook his head. “He’s stable.”

“That’s not what I asked.”

“…He’s in between,” Eli said. “Like me. Like Lada.”

“Is he going to hurt someone?”

“Only if you hurt Tae.”

Sol raised an eyebrow. “That a threat?”

Eli shrugged. “That’s love.”

4:05 a.m. – Rooftop

Rin stood alone at the edge, staring out at the city.

The infection was spreading. The horizon was on fire.

He didn’t hear Sol approach, but he felt it.

“I can’t stop thinking about how easily I could’ve died up here,” Rin said.

Sol stepped beside him. “You didn’t.”

“But I could’ve. And I don’t know what’s worse—dying… or waking up without you beside me.”

Sol turned, watching him.

“Rin.”

Rin didn’t look at him. “I’m not good at this.”

“Try.”

“I—” Rin’s throat closed up. “When I thought I was going to die, all I could think about was you. Not my mom. Not my bike. Just you.”

Sol’s voice dropped. “Then live for me.”

Rin turned to him. “…What?”

“Live for me. Fight for me. Because if you die, I don’t want to survive.”

They stood in silence for a moment.

Then Rin leaned in.

And this time, he kissed Sol first.

4:22 a.m. – School Basement

Lada’s body lay still in the darkness.

Until…

Her fingers twitched.

Her lips curled into a smile.

And her eyes snapped open—

Not blue.

Not black.

But gold.

She whispered:

“Almost ready.”
