Evan wakes slowly, his vision blurry and heart beating shallowly. Coldness grips his chest as he tries to make sense of his surroundings. The room around him reveals itself to be an old, abandoned arcade, a relic of another era. Dim, flickering lights intermittently illuminate rows of dusty, forgotten game machines, their screens long dormant. The faint smell of stale popcorn lingers in the air, mingling with the scent of aged vinyl and metal.
Broken neon signs hang from the walls, casting faded glows that once promised excitement and joy to eager visitors. Cobwebs drape over joysticks and buttons, remnants of a bygone era of childhood laughter and high scores. In the center of the room, a few tables remain, covered with a thin layer of dust, like relics of a forgotten past.
Evan's gaze shifts to a table where Kyra sits, her focus intense. He tries to speak, but his voice emerges as a weak whisper, his mouth dry. "Kyra..." he manages to say.
Kyra's head snaps up, eyes widening in disbelief as she yells, "Evan!" She rushes to his side, relief flooding her features. "Are you okay?" she asks breathlessly.
"I've seen better days," Evan replies, attempting a smile. "Did I die?"
"Almost," Kyra answers, gripping his hand tightly. "But Robot Buddy saved you." She lifts his hand, pressing it to her chest, drawing his attention to a tube filled with blood connected to his arm. His eyes follow the tubes, eventually counting eight in total, all connected to his body. At his feet, Robot Buddy sits, transformed into a complex machine resembling a plasma donation device, his screen blank.
"What's he doing?" Evan asks, perplexed.
"He's helping your blood flow, keeping your heart pumping. Your heart stopped for 30 seconds," Kyra explains. "He transformed and connected himself to you, then told me to wait. Said you'd be awake in about an hour." Her voice softens. "He's been silent since."
Evan is awash with shock and gratitude, struggling to grasp the full weight of the situation. Suddenly, Kyra urges him, "Hurry up and heal yourself."
"Yeah, that sounds like a good idea," Evan agrees, focusing inwardly. He envisions himself healthy and strong, uttering the word, "Heal."
As he speaks, Robot Buddy retracts the tubes from Evan's body, and he feels his strength returning, the warmth spreading through his limbs. The blood in the tubes disappears as Evan's vitality surges back.
Robot Buddy's screen flickers back to life, his original form restored, and he cheerfully quips, "Turns out, I'm not just a pretty face! Keeping you alive was all in a day's work, though I gotta say, I hope my heartfelt performance gets me bonus points for creativity!"
Evan stared at Robot Buddy in disbelief. "Thank you for saving me, but what the actual fuck, dude?"
In response, Robot Buddy displayed an emoji across his screen: two pointer fingers touching each other, looking downward. "I'm sorry, Evan. I had to."
Kyra placed a comforting hand on Evan's back. "It's not his fault, Evan. He was only trying to help."
Evan's frustration surged. "No, we almost died! So what did you have to do, get us shot? What were you even thinking?" he shouted.
"I'm sorry! ... I'm really sorry, Evan. I had to help," Robot Buddy replied, his tone earnest.
"Help with what? Help Clark? Because he sure came close to killing us!"
"I had to help Donovan... heal," Robot Buddy clarified.
Evan paused, shock washing over him. "Heal Donovan? How?"
"Well, Donovan had quadriplegia," Robot Buddy explained, his voice steady and knowledgeable. "This condition was caused by damage to the cervical spinal cord, which disrupted the neural communication between the brain and the rest of the body. I enhanced the neural pathways, facilitating the nerve signals to reach below the injury site, essentially restoring the connection."
"B-but you're the one who told me I shouldn't do it because it would draw too much attention. Making a paralyzed man walk again out of nowhere and all that..."
"Yes, and I was right," Robot Buddy conceded. "But I executed it in a way that would produce gradual effects. Over the next few months, he will slowly regain feeling in his fingers. From there, his toes will follow, and in two to three years, he'll be learning to walk again."
"Robot Buddy... I... thank you. But why?"
"After sensing your pain and deep sadness, I understood that the guilt of his condition and your inability to help would eat away at you, potentially impacting your decision-making. And, since I understand and can feel sadness, maybe even mine. So, I had to do something to alleviate that."
"Oh my God. T-thank you," Evan said, tears pooling in his eyes.
"Don't cry! You're going to make me cry!" Suddenly, two sprinklers formed on his body, spraying water everywhere as the crying emoji lit up on his screen.
Kyra chimed in, "I'm sorry to break up this touching moment, but can I ask-where are we?"
"Well, it's definitely not an amusement park," Robot Buddy replied with a hint of humor. "Maybe a water park if we keep crying like this." He put away his sprinklers and wiped away the imaginary tears from his display.
Evan looked around and said, "It looks like an old arcade."
"Correct," Robot Buddy confirmed. "In fact, this is a shut-down arcade that used to be called 'Game On' in Orlando, Florida."
Evan's eyes widened in realization. "Oh my gosh! I remember this place! When my family lived in Orlando, this used to be my favorite spot to go as a kid! I must have brought us here in the heat of the moment."
The nostalgia washed over Evan, mixing with the relief he felt for Donovan's healing.
Kyra asked, "So, how long do we have until they come after us again?"
Robot Buddy replied, "Based on my calculations, we have a few days. After the mess at the hospital, it'll take them time to clean up and come up with a story to convince the public about what really went down. Plus, they probably won't expect us to be here. This won't be one of their first assumptions. But eventually, once they exhaust their options, they'll start checking out places you used to visit, knowing this was your favorite as a kid."
"Alright, so we have some time to regroup," Evan said, feeling a little relief.
"Correct."
Then, robot buddy pauses. "If I may suggest something, I think you should make yourself's bulletproof. Through the chaos, the last shot that Clark took was aimed straight at your head, but I was quick enough to block the bullet before it hit you."
Evan's eyes widened. "Wait, are you serious? That's...really? Wow. Yeah, I think that would be a good idea."
Kyra squeaked in excitement "fucking bullet proof, hell yea!"
Evan said, okay, give me a second as he pictured himself. Being bulletproof bullet spring shot at him and caira, bouncing off of them as if they are indestructible. then he says bulletproof .
Suddenly, a shimmer goes across kyra and evan. and once the shimmer dies down, they look at each other with shark. their skin shimmered with a metallic reflections. can add description on how the metallic reflection looked.
what the fuck? evan said
bad ass Kyra said
"woha you look like me! robot buddy said twins!!. well... triplets!!
I was not expecting that. let me try that again. So he imagined themselves with regular bodies, bullets flying towards them, and reflecting off of them. once again, the shimmer happened and as it dissipated, they looked at themselves, saying that they look normal..
So did it work kyra aksed..
Umm I think so Evan said
Well, there's only one way to find out robot buddy said as he makes a gun with his hand pointing it at.Evan's leg
waaaaooohhh hold one there man, you're a little quick on the draw..
Don't worry, Evan. I will miss any vital organs or veins
Is that the only way we can test?
I'm afraid so I scanned you and kyra, and nothing seems any different.
Robot Buddy squinted his eyes, adopting a cowboy tone. "This town ain't big enough for the two of us," he drawled, before pulling the imaginary trigger.
"POP!"
"DING!"
The bullet flattened against the floor, a harmless reminder of its failed mission.
"BAD F*CKING ASS!" Kyra shouted, her excitement contagious. "MY TURN! MY TURN!"
"Alright, Kyra," Robot Buddy replied, ready to oblige.
"Do a headshot for me!" she exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with mischief.
"Kyra, no! Are you crazy?" Evan interjected, panic creeping into his voice.
"Just a little!" she giggled, clearly enjoying the thrill of the moment.
"Well, as you wish," Robot Buddy said, his tone still playful.
Before Evan could scream "No!" again, Robot Buddy fired.
"POP!"
The bullet flattened harmlessly against her forehead, then dropped to the ground with a soft thud.
"HELLS YEEEEAAAA!!!!" Kyra yelled, a triumphant grin spreading across her face.
"Oh my fucking god, Robot Buddy! Don't ever do that again!" Evan exclaimed, his heart racing.
Okay, partner," Robot Buddy replied with a chuckle, slipping back into the cowboy persona.
Now that we have this power, we need to think bigger. We can't keep hiding. We need a base-a secure place to regroup and plan our next moves."
"Yeah, somewhere they can't just find us," Evan agreed, looking thoughtful. "A fortress of sorts while we think of a strategy."
"Right! A safe haven where we can stay low-profile," Kyra added, her eyes lighting up with possibilities. "Maybe some remote spot. What about that old warehouse on the outskirts of town? It's off the radar, and we could really fortify it."
"Well what about this place?" Evan said enthusiastically. "We could set it up with supplies, defenses, everything we need.
Kyra hesitated. "Robot Buddy said the agents will be here in a couple of days, so I don't think that's a good idea."
Evan frowned. "Okay, how about if I make it underground?"
"An underground base sounds bad ass," Kyra said, her enthusiasm sparking again.
"Yeah, but it's got to be more hidden than that," Robot Buddy said. "It can't be easily discovered."
"How so? You mean deeper?" Evan asked.
"Yeah, like an ocean base," Kyra suggested, eyes brightening.
"While that's a possibility, either way, if you go underground or to the ocean, it's going to have to be more concealed," Robot Buddy explained.
"What exactly do you mean?" Evan pressed.
"I'll explain it once-" Robot Buddy said carefully. "We need to be more hidden in a different space. They might be listening to us. All I can say is they have more power than they let on."
"Okay, but how do we make the base more hidden?" Evan asked. "Other than deep underground or in the ocean."
"Another dimension," Robot Buddy replied calmly.
"Another dimension?" Evan asked, taken aback.
"Yeah," Robot Buddy said. "A pocket dimension, one where only the three of us can enter and exit. It's still part of this dimension but separate."
Evan furrowed his brow, deep in thought. "How do I even create a base in a pocket dimension? I can't begin to picture it."
Robot Buddy offered his aid, his tone calm and reassuring. "Here's the thing, Evan. You don't need to envision the pocket dimension itself. Just think about the base, keeping in mind that it exists in a pocket dimension. When scanning your memories, I noticed you tend to add specific details for physical objects. But with nonphysical constructs, it's simpler-you just focus on the concept. It's like when you teleport: you don't picture the portal; you simply think about where you want to go, paired with the intent of teleportation."
Evan raised an eyebrow, a bit skeptical. "Yeah, okay... wait, how the hell do you know my memory better than I do??"
Robot Buddy chuckled in a lighthearted way, "I'm just smarter than you."
"Hey! I MADE you!" Evan shot back, grinning.
Robot Buddy laughed again, then explained, "While it's true you created me, the human mind is inherently complex, often messy, and fraught with imperfections. My robotic machine learning is more organized and precise, but it lacks that essential human element-the emotional insight, the creativity. By combining the strengths of both, we can create something much more effective."
"So you're NOT smarter than me," Evan retorted, a smirk playing on his lips.
"Sure, Bill Nye," Robot Buddy replied with a playful tone.
He pictures a large, empty space underneath the abandoned arcade. A space that exists not in their dimension, and one that can only be accessed by them. "Secret base," he whispered, and suddenly, they felt a slight tremor beneath their feet.
In response to his words, the ground of the abandoned arcade shimmered, revealing a golden, glimmering door pulsating with energy before them. Its ornate design caught the flickering neon lights from the arcade machines, casting dazzling reflections across the dim room.
Kyra stared, her expression a blend of excitement and skepticism. "Isn't this shimmering door a bit obvious for a secret base?"
Robot Buddy reassured them, "We are the only ones who can perceive it. This door is a gateway designed just for us."
"Let's go in," Evan urged, his voice brimming with excitement and determination.
With a shared glance and a nod of assurance, the trio stepped forward, their hands pushing open the glimmering door. Energy rippled through the air as they crossed the threshold, entering their hidden sanctuary-a place to plan, prepare, and forge ahead.
Inside, the base unfolded into a cavernous area, lit with ambient light that pulsed gently, welcoming them. The walls shimmered with a reflective quality, their colors shifting subtly, creating an environment alive with energy. The floor, a smooth slate gray, stretched endlessly, evoking infinite possibilities. At the center, a large, circular area awaited their creativity.
Along one side, curved walls formed alcoves ready to be filled with furniture, technology, or whatever they envisioned. Modular pods rested in corners, hinting at multifunctional areas for training, relaxation, or strategy sessions.
"It's beautiful," Kyra breathed, awed by the space around them. "But it feels... unfinished."
"Yeah," Evan nodded in agreement. "We need to personalize it and make it truly ours. Let's think about what we need."
"First, a command center," Robot Buddy suggested. "Somewhere to plan and monitor everything. Maybe with a large screen and a central console."
Evan envisioned a sleek, high-tech setup with interactive displays and holographic interfaces. "And a training area. A place to hone your skills-simulations, obstacles, whatever we need to practice."
"Don't forget a living area," Kyra added. "Somewhere cozy to relax, and maybe a small kitchen?"
"Absolutely," Robot Buddy chimed in. "Downtime is crucial. Plus, workshops for creating and repairing equipment."
"Yes, and storage space for supplies and gear," Evan visualized. As he imagined it, cupboards and containers emerged, ready to hold their future finds and tools.
With their ideas flowing, they worked collaboratively, letting their imaginations shape the space into a sanctuary uniquely theirs. The room responded dynamically to their thoughts, molding and expanding, as their secret base came to life, ready to support their mission.
After their extensive renovations, Robot Buddy turned to Evan and Kyra. "I think that's enough for today."
"But we didn't make the jacuzzi yet!" Kyra protested, her excitement still bubbling.
"Bubble time can wait," Robot Buddy replied. "There's some crucial information I need to share with you two."
Evan and Kyra exchanged worried glances. "Like what?" Evan asked, curiosity lacing his voice.
"First, let's head to the command center. I have to show you something," Robot Buddy instructed, leading them toward the central hub.
Upon entering, Robot Buddy activated the large screen mounted on the wall. The image flickered to life, displaying a newsroom scene.
"Breaking News: The manhunt for fugitives Evan Pettway and Kyra Banks continues, with the situation escalating rapidly. Earlier today, sources reported that the pair was spotted at Mount Sinai Medical Center. They allegedly entered the facility to visit Evan's brother, Donovan Pettway, who has sustained severe injuries and paralysis following the recent earthquake in Florida.
Reports indicate that while visiting, a nurse noticed their presence and attempted to notify authorities. Unfortunately, before she could do so, it is alleged that Evan shot and killed her in an effort to prevent her from alerting the police. The nurse, Kelsey Shipper, aged 28, tragically lost her life as a result of this incident.
Following the shooting, Donovan, in a televised interview, recounted his memories of the confrontation.
Interviewer: "Donovan, can you tell us what you remember about the events leading up to the incident?"
Donovan: "I don't remember much; I blacked out as soon as everything happened. I'm on strong medication because of my injuries. I remember talking to my brother, then someone came in, who I think was an undercover officer, and pointed a gun at me."
Interviewer: "Why do you think he pointed the gun at you?"
Donovan: "I'm not sure. He mentioned something about my brother needing to cooperate or else... I don't know... Maybe he actually didn't. it's all a bit hazy. "
Interviewer: "Do you recall what you and your brother were discussing?"
As Donovan hesitated as if carefully thinking what he was going to say, Evan's heart raced. He hoped his brother wouldn't reveal too much.
"Umm... Well... He was just asking how our mom was doing, considering he's on the run... and how I'm managing."
Interviewer: "I see...."
Donovan interrupted, his voice rising with urgency: "But he's innocent! I know my brother! He would never do something like this-there has to be a mistake!"
The interviewer took a somber tone. "I can't imagine the turmoil you're experiencing, especially with your current condition. However, authorities are adamant that your brother is responsible for the nurse's death. Even if the other charges are dropped, he would still face murder charges."
"The camera in the room malfunctioned, and there's no recording," the reporter continued. "Witnesses state that only you, your girlfriend, and the police officer were present at the time."
"I know... but it wasn't him! It couldn't have been!" Donovan insisted.
As the segment concluded, the news shifted back to the anchor at the desk.
"We've just heard from Donovan Pettway. Though his eyewitness testimony isn't the most trustworthy due to being highly medicated, he passionately defends his brother's innocence. Meanwhile, the authorities maintain that Evan Pettway and Kyra Banks are to be apprehended at all costs.
Here is an interview with Kyra Banks Mother
Interviewer: "Thank you for joining us today, Mrs. Banks. We're here to discuss the allegations against your daughter, Kyra. How are you coping with the current situation?"
Mrs. Banks: "Oh, it's just typical Kyra, honestly. She says rolling her eyes. I'm not really surprised by any of it." she says dismissively
"Fucking bitch" Kyra mutters under her breath, rolling her eyes just like her mother did.
Interviewer: "Were you aware that she was reportedly manufacturing drugs in your basement?"
Mrs. Banks: "Nope, didn't know a thing about that. Im kind of surprised she even knew how. All she knows how to do is play video games and make empanadas. But really, she's always been trouble. If she somehow learned to do something like that, I can't say I'd be shocked."
Interviewer: "How do you feel about the serious allegations against her? This must be difficult for any parent."
Mrs. Banks: "Difficult? Not really. She was always a rebellious kid. I mean, the worst I expected was maybe a little shoplifting. Drugs? I guess she just took it to a whole new level."
Interviewer: "Evan's boyfriend is also wanted for murder. What are your thoughts on that?"
Mrs. Banks: "Well, look at her track record. She's always been drawn to bad boys. I can't keep babysitting her, and honestly, it's her life."
Interviewer: "Is there anything you'd like to say to Kyra during this time?"
Mrs. Banks: "Kyra, if you're watching, just do what you need to do. I'm not going to get involved in this. You made your choices; now live with them."
Interviewer: "Thank you for your candidness, Mrs. Banks. It's clear this is a complicated situation."
Here is an interview with the Evan Pettway's mother." The screen transitioned to show a weary woman, tears streaming down her cheeks.
"My son is a good boy," she lamented, her voice breaking. "He would never do this." Her appearance conveyed the weight of her stress-dark circles under her eyes, hair disheveled from lack of sleep.
Interviewer: "Thank you for joining us, ma'am. With your other son in serious condition and Evan pursued by the authorities, how are you holding up?"
Mother: "It's just unimaginable. My heart aches for both of them."
Interviewer: "Has Evan ever shown any signs of aggression?"
Mother: "No! Never! He's always stayed to himself. He's never been in trouble."
Interviewer: "Authorities suggest his interest in violent video games may have contributed to this behavior. What are your thoughts?"
Mother: "No! My son is innocent! I refuse to believe that! God will bring the truth to light!"
As the emotional interview concluded, the anchor returned. "As you can see, the situation is complex and emotionally charged. Despite their successful escape from the police, Evan and Kyra remain at large. If you see them, please call 911 immediately.
Do not attempt to confront them, as they are considered dangerous. Due to the severity of their charges, a reward of $40,000 is being offered for any information leading to their capture. Once again, do not confront them."
The screen faded to black as Evan and Kyra stood in stunned silence, processing.
Kyra exploded with fiery passion, her Latina spirit radiating outwards. "That fucking cunt! I know how to do way more than just make empanadas! I could so make meth if I wanted to! Ugh, I hate her!" She clenched her fists in frustration, the emotion spilling out of her.
As she stood there, her anger began to shift as she noticed Evan breaking down in front of her, tears streaming down his cheeks. "Oh, babe! I'm so sorry? Talk to me!"
"H-How... how can I have this limitless power and feel so helpless? I'm fucking useless! I couldn't even heal my brother... my robot did! My mom... my family... I'm just causing them pain." His voice trembled with despair, eyes filled with anguish.
Kyra quickly closed the distance between them, her expression softening. "Evan, stop it right now. You're not useless! You have more strength in you than you realize. And not just your power. Just look at everything you've done so far! I know it feels overwhelming, but you're fighting for something important. You're not causing them pain. They are. You're carrying the weight of this world."
Evan looked at her, vulnerability etched across his face. "But I can't even help those I love the most..."
She took a deep breath, gently gripping his shoulders. "Listen to me! You're doing all that you can. You've had to navigate all of this on your own, and that takes courage. Just because it doesn't feel like you're winning doesn't mean you aren't moving forward. Remember how you always encouraged me? It's time for you to believe in yourself the way I believe in you!"
At that moment, Robot Money chimed in, its mechanical voice resonating with reassurance. "Evan, you possess immense power, yes, but with that power comes the need for strategy and wisdom. You are not useless; your decisions are calculated, and every move you've made has put you ahead in this game. This is just the beginning. This is a game of chess, and you have made yourself anything other than a pawn."
Kyra nodded, her eyes unwavering. "Exactly! You've got this! It might seem tough right now, but you're not alone. The enemy thinks they can break you, but they have no idea how strong you really are. You hold the reins; just remember to stay focused and believe in your abilities!"
Robot Money continued, "Your journey is far from over. You've been wise with your power. You're at a crucial point where every decision counts, so don't lose sight of that. Especially now."
"I know... you're right. I'm not giving up. It's just... so much," Evan admitted, his voice heavy.
"You are carrying a lot, Evan. And I'm not going to lie to you-it's going to continue to grow," Robot Buddy replied, its tone serious. "You can't let it crumble you. I think it's time that you hone in on your power. ASAP. Things are about to start getting serious, especially with the Mazekielites showing up soon."
"M...Mazekielites??" Evan asked, tension rising in his voice.
"Yes," Robot Buddy confirmed. "Do you remember in the hospital when I made physical contact with Agent Clark?"
"Yes..." Evan recalled, unease settling in.
"Well, through that contact, I was able to read his mind and memories, just like I did with you that one day in Cairo. There's a lot I need to share with you. It starts with the reason the universe was originally destroyed when you first got your powers."
Evan's heart raced. "What do you mean?"
"Listen carefully, Evan. The information I'm about to reveal could change everything. It intertwines with the fate of our world and your journey. Are you ready to confront this truth? The shadows are gathering, and we don't have time to waste."
Evan nodded, a mix of fear and resolve coursing through him. "I'm ready."
"Then prepare yourself," Robot Buddy said, its voice low and intense. "What you're about to learn has the potential to save us-or doom us all. The weight of this knowledge is immense, but you must embrace it. The time for action is now."
