"Bye, mom!" Lily waves at her mom as she and her dad head to the car.
"Have a good day, you two!" Mrs. Rossi waves at her daughter and husband.
Françoise Dupont High School
Today was Parents Career Day. Everyone is classroom was asked to bring one of their parents to class and explain what their job is. For Lily Rossi, her dad, John Rossi, was attending with her.
At the moment, Tom, Marinette's father, explains his job while the said klutz was next to him holding a tray of croissants.
"My day begins at five a.m. every morning because the bakery opens at eight. You think that the life of a baker is pretty routine, making the same pastries, rolls, cakes. But actually, it's different every day. One day someone might order a cake in the shape of the Eiffel Tower, and another day you might..."
"Wow, being a baker is really hard." Lily tells her father, who is standing next to her.
"Are you saying that his job is harder than mine?" Mr. Rossi teased.
She giggles. "You know what I mean, dad."
Everyone applauded for Tom after he finished explaining his role as a baker.
Just then Adrien came into the classroom, looking crestfallen.
Lily immediately noticed this as Nino put a hand on Adrien's shoulder. The blonde looked at him and shook his head.
Lily got out her phone and sent her childhood friend a text.
The blonde received it and read it.
Lily 🌺
Are you okay? You look sad. 😕
Adrien sent a text back to Lily and she read it.
Adrien ❤️
My father's not coming for Parents Career Day...
Lily frowns and looked at Adrien, who was looking back at her sadly. She gave him a sympathetic look.
"Marinette will come around and pass out some croissants baked fresh this morning." Tom said as Marinette came forward with a tray of croissants.
"Thank you, Mr. Dupain. Now, let's meet Alya's mom, who is head chef at the Grand Paris hotel, owned by our mayor, Mr. Bourgeois." Miss Bustier said while Alya and her mom and Alya came up front.
Lily noticed Marinette looking at Adrien with a weird smile.
Like her blind ass didn't see how miserable the Agreste boy looked.
'Can't she see he's sad?! Way to care about his feelings.' Lily rolls her eyes.
Marinette rested a croissant in front of Sabrina with the pair of tongs she had.
"Ew, Dupain-Cheng, how unsanitary are you?" Chloé glares at her enemy.
Marinette sighs. "What are you talking about, Chloé?"
"Why couldn't you have brought plastic plates to place the croissant on instead of having to put it on an unclean desk? This is exactly why I know if you gave me anything, I'd get food poison from you." Chloé berated the blue-haired hypocrite.
"On second thought..." Sabrina picks up the croissant warily and returns it to Marinette. "You can have it back."
Marinette scoffs and rolls her eyes, taking back the pastry with her tongs. "Whatever, you spoiled brats."
"Yeah, we're spoiled brats for not wanting to get sick," Chloé claps back as Marinette walks away. "Utterly ridiculous."
"Unfortunately, I have no dishes to share. But maybe Mr. Bourgeois will invite you all to the hotel and treat you to lunch!" Marlena says.
The students start applauding.
Marinette suddenly slips backwards and falls as the croissants flew up in the air and then landed. One croissant dropped straight on her head, causing Sabrina to snicker.
"Geez, is there a day when you're not tripping over something?" Chloé glared down at Marinette.
Sabrina laughs, causing Marinette to shoot her a dirty look. "Don't give me that look, Marinette. Focus on picking up those croissants which no one else is gonna eat cause they're all dirty now."
"Ew." Lily scrunched up her face, looking at the croissants on the ground as Marinette picked them up with her tongs.
"Marinette, I think it's best you throw them away." Tom tells his daughter.
"Yes, dad." Marinette frowns, throwing the inedible croissants in the trash before she sat next to Alya.
"Up next is Lily's father, who owns a very popular tailor shop in Paris." Miss Bustier said while Lily and her dad went upfront.
"Hello, everyone," John greeted the teens, "I'm a tailor who owns a tailor shop La Maison de Tailleur. I make customized suits for men and woman in all sizes."
"So you make all kind of suits?" Nino raised his hand.
"Yes, I want to make sure that my customers look their best for any occasion." John replied and gestured to Chloé's dad, "For example, I made sure that Mayor André Bourgeois would make a great impression for today's event."
André smiled at the statement. Chloé was also happy at John's words.
"Do you also fix up any damaged clothes?" Mylene raised her hand.
"Of course. I fix up hats, dresses, suits and even a few stuffed animals as well." John answered.
Alix raised her hand, "How long have you been tailoring?"
"I've been in the tailor business since I was thirteen years old. That's how I befriended Mr. Agreste when we were our twenties as he was aiming to be a designer. I also met my wife at my father's tailor shop when she was looking for a suit for her father," John chuckled, "It brings me satisfaction when my clients are comfortable in their suits, and it also brings me joy when I make unexpected connections with them as well."
The teens were really impressed with John's passion for his chosen profession. The group applauded and congratulated him on his devotion and hard work.
Marinette rolled her eyes in disbelief at this. She knew that tailoring was just as important as designing. But to her, designing was more important. She felt her father's job as a baker was more impressive, because he had to make things that people could actually eat.
"Thank you for informing my students of your profession, Mr. Rossi," Miss Bustier thanked Mr. Rossi. "Next on the list is Sabrina's father, a policeman. Officer Roger!"
While she was saying this, Officer Roger and Sabrina came up front to the class as everyone all clapped.
"I've been a police officer for fifteen years, and I firmly believe that every citizen is innocent until proven guilty." Mr. Raincomprix states.
Kim raised his hand, "Did you have any car chases?" He asked.
"One or two, I guess. Luckily, we haven't any yet so far." Roger replied.
Max raised his hand, "Do you solve any cold cases?"
"We try our best to solve them. But I'm sure that we'll solve as many as we can." Roger answered.
As the class gave a round of applause, Miss Bustier gestured for Sabrina and her father to return to the side of the classroom as she walked over the computer on her desk.
"Now, our next guest couldn't be here in person, so he is video calling in, I believe." She adjusted a couple of controls before the large screen behind her turned on and a familiar face appeared on screen. "Hello, Mr. Agreste."
"Hello." Though Mr. Agreste's tone was as cold as usual, Lily and John were simply glad that he had shown up.
Adrien turned around in his seat and gave Lily a look so full of gratefulness that it left Lily feeling warm inside. She could see slight tears shining in the corners of his eyes. She knew that she could never imagine what it meant to him that his father was there, but she was so immensely glad that he could feel that joy.
As Mr. Agreste began to talk, the class fell silent, each and every student listening to the fashion icon with rapt attention. When he finished, there was a moment of silence before the class exploded in applause and Adrien's face flushed red with pride as Nino slapped him on the back and said how 'cool' his father was. Lily smiled softly down at her friend, hoping that this would only be the first of many occasions when his father did things like this for him.
"Does anybody have any questions for Mr. Agreste?" Miss Bustier asked, though the question wasn't really necessary as a forest of hands shot up, each student clamoring to ask their question first.
School Courtyard
By the time break came around, nothing had changed. Though Mr. Agreste had had to return to his own day and various parents had given talks since then, Adrien was swarmed by people interrogating him in the courtyard. As Lily made her way down the stairs into the space, she caught sight of the blonde boy and began to walk towards him.
Adrien met her halfway, excusing himself from the crowds surrounding him and striding towards her with a purpose Lily had rarely seen from her friend.
"Hello, Mr. Popular." She greeted him with a broad grin. "It's nice to see that you can make time for little old me."
Adrien did not respond to her joking comment, instead wrapped his arms around her in a tight hug and rested his head on her shoulder, "Thank you." He whispered, not letting go.
"You deserve it, Adrien," Lily told him, her voice filled with honesty, "Besides, I didn't really do much."
"But still, thank you." Adrien said.
Lily smiled softly and hugged him back. She was truly glad that no Akuma appeared today and that Gabriel was able to come to Career Day. Her dad, John, certainly had a hand in getting Gabriel to attend. Lily had a suspicion that Tikki and Trixx made sure that Plagg wouldn't make any trouble on this day. She'll ask them later. Then the two of them walked to their next class, neither noticing nor caring about all of the people around them who were whispering about their actions.
