I've always thought of Eddie as my best-friend. She was the only person I had for a long time, and I guess it's cliche, but she is the one person I couldn't live without.  That's why I made my decision to ditch Danielle and go towards Eddie. The only problem? She had already left. I looked around frantically, trying to find any sign that she was still in the park. Nothing. Maybe she had seen me and made her escape. Maybe she had found a new best friend and they went somewhere together. Maybe- Dillan, breathe. 

I turned back towards Danielle, bracing myself for the yelling that was going to spew out of her mouth any instant now. "What's wrong?" She asked in a perfectly calm and not-at-all-angry voice. Now, this was especially weird. The Danielle I knew would have yelled at me the instant I abandoned my mission. I bet she's just not allowed to break cover. Let's go with that. I stood, shell-shocked for a moment before composing myself enough to answer her.

"My sister. We lived in a mental hospital together for most of our lives but, then an attack on the hospital left me with you guys and her with God knows who. I saw her and wanted to meet up but, no such luck in that category. She left." 

Danielle nodded an understanding nod before looking up at me boldly. "Then we'll find her."

I stared at her with a dumb expression plastered on my face. Then I cracked a sad smile at her. "Ha! Very funny. Where's the mission?" Danielle glanced up at me as if studying me for the first time. Her eyes were filled with a concern that I had never seen in anyone except for Eddie before. It made my eyes water a bit. 

"Look, I know what it's like to lose a sister. I had a sister once, her name was Vanessa. She was killed in a drive-by-shooting in front of a buildingthat was lit on fire. They couldn't save her, or anyone else or that matter. Five were kileld that day. One in the fire, the rest were shot." 

My brain raced as I remembered the fire. I can still recall every detail on how the flames licked my skin, the burning feeling that made me want to cry out. Cassie's limp body in my arms. if there was one person who would kidnap Eddie on purpose, it would be Valencia. 

"Come on," I called out to Danielle "I might know where she is."

I raced down the road, Danielle on my coattail. The only time I stopped was when I ran headfirst into a boy with midnight black hair and dark blue eyes. I was sent flying to the ground, as was he. Danielle remained upright as she snickered at us. 

"Sorry." He mumbled as he hoisted himself up. "I'm just in a rush looking for someone. Have you seen a girl with white hair running around here?" My eyes immediately shot up to his. 

"Eddie? You know Eddie?" I frantically asked. "Where is she?"

He laughed in my face. Rude. "Not here. She ran away from my sister, Valencia after she had surgery to stop her visions."

I took a step back from him. "Valencia's sister?" I asked. "Oh no." His face contorted into a strange confused face before he finally asked what he was wondering. 

"I'm Jace....who are you?"

The door to the institute slammed open as Valencia smirked in the doorway. 

"Jace, meet Dillan. Eddie's sister."
