Thunder was my roommate before I left Florida for more familiar pastures.
My trailer was right smack dab in the middle of a horse corral,and Thunder was a beautiful old nag,brown all over,with a white stripe down his nose.And he had a huge dick that swung like a pendulum as he walked.
He was retired from the pornographic film industry because of his drug addiction.
"The Mob took over,"he once told me over a cup of tea.He was partial to jasmine with a hint of mint."Once organized crime moves in,you know it's time you get out."
He'd be waiting for me at the wire fence once I got home from my job as a dishwasher.
"Thunder,thunder,thunder!" I would intone into the madness."Thunder Cats,Ho!"
He would grunt and nip me in the chest, demanding oatmeal out of the Quaker Oats box.If I didn't have anything on hand he'd pull a switchblade.
One time me Ace and Lori were in the corral and Thunder started huffing.
Ace,a dangerous old Puerto Rican who had done time with G Gordon Liddy and Timothy Leary at different times back in the old days, whipped out his switch blade.
"Fuck you,Thunder!" he snarled.
"Rrrrrrffff",the angry horse replied.
As I watched the proceedings dumbfounded,Dori,aces wife,calmed Thunder down by stroking his neck.
"Stay the fuck away from him,"she said."You know he hates you."
I guess at some other time Ace had made the mistake of walking behind the agitated horse and Thunder sent him flying with a very good kick.
"He almost broke my godamn ribs,"Ace once told me."I hate that motherfucker."

"I hated that fucking faggot,"he told me."He used to sit in the courtyard with young boys and do this OM shit,the fucking queer.I'd slap him around and take his shit."
Ace wasn't someone you wanted to cross,even at sixty.He'd already sent two guys into the morgue and got off with manslaughter.One time when he was still in New York a guy slapped his daughter out in California and he wasted no time in crossing the great divide to pay the guy a visit.The sap lived,just a little damage to his abdomen when Ace stuck a blade into him.The cops had the place cornered and the Puerto Rican jumped out of a three story window to escape.He didn't escape a very bad fall or the police.Six months in the prison hospital and three years for attempted manslaughter.Lori told me they had been caught in the cross fire when they stole something they shouldn't have from people who didn't appreciate it.
"New York back in the Seventies was fucking crazy,"she told me."These motherfuckers shot Ace in the chest but his voodoo medallion took the bullet."
Aces mom was an acclaimed Voodoo Priestess in New York City,and the amulet was for health.
I guess they just decided to "take the cure" around 1979 and moved to Florida to escape the cornucopia of heroin in New York.
She said it wasn't long after that all of they're old junkie buddies started dropping like flies.
"No one knew what the hell was going on at that time,"she said."If we hadn't got the fuck out when we did,we would have caught that shit."
One time they were shooting up in her car at the park and a girl started frothing at the mouth and went into convulsions.Dori managed to open the passenger door.
"I kicked the bitch out,"she said."We left her there to die.I still don't know if she just had a bad reaction or if it was a fucking hot shot.Some of these motherfuckers would poison the shit for kicks."
...Some nights I'd be sitting in my chair writing when the door knob started turning menacingly.
I would grab my snubnose revolver from my desk anticipating trouble.
I needint have bothered.
It was only the Horse opening my door with his teeth.
Thunder would walk halfway into the trailer and threaten me if I didn't feed him something.
It's no fun getting bit by a horse on the lamb from the pornographic film industry.
