As time passed, I gradually knew that Nora was kind, cheerful, and straightforward. She had been raised by her grandma after her parents divorced when she was young. Though she had once felt sad about her family situation, she grew more mature and independent over time and eventually let go of that pain. We met every two weeks at first, but soon the frequency increased to once a week. She would often show me pictures of her cat, always dressed up in cute clothes or accessories, as Nora loved to style her. We had many shared interests and topics, and we complemented each other’s strengths and weaknesses, which made me grow fonder of her.

Three months later, as our relationship deepened, I decided to take it further and asked if she would be my girlfriend. She blushed and kissed me, giving her clear answer.

Not long after, Nora came to visit my parents. Since my brother and sister had moved out and started their own families, my parents were particularly warm toward her. Though a bit overwhelmed by their enthusiasm, she also felt welcomed and looked forward to becoming part of my family. She even met my parents' cats and had a great time playing with them.

The following weekend, it was my turn to visit her grandma. I brought some fruit and, upon arriving at her house, was surprised to find that it was more than twice the size of mine, like a modern two-story castle. Yet only Nora and her grandma lived there, which gave the place a bit of a lonely feel.

Her grandma was delighted to see me and had prepared a lavish meal for us. During lunch, we talked about all sorts of topics, and after the meal, we played virtual reality games together until nightfall. As I was about to leave, I glanced around and noticed some cat toys and climbing trees. It suddenly occurred to me that I hadn’t seen her cat all day.

I asked casually, "Where’s your cat?"

Nora seemed a bit evasive and replied that her cat was shy and didn’t like meeting strangers. She said maybe next time I would have the chance to see her. Being a cat owner myself, I knew some cats were indeed shy, so I didn’t think much of it and looked forward to meeting her "shy" cat next time.
However, as I was putting on my shoes to leave, Nora’s grandma seemed like she wanted to say something but stopped herself. At that moment, I was too focused on Nora to notice.
To be continued…
