What are friends, you may ask?

Are they someone I have to unmask?

Who are my friends, one might ponder,

Are they the ones who leave me to wander?

Recently, I've let go of the people I knew,

It was coming, but it seemed out of the blue.

I should've known it ended up this way,

But I was ignorant, and wanted them to stay.

My answer to the question above,

Is those who aren't lacking in love.

I had a friend who was deprived of that,

And we ended things with the verbal swing of a bat.

My answer to the question before,

Is one that won't change themselves from their core.

I had a friend who was changed with a flick of a button

,Who, in a moment, became quite shut in.

My answer to the things that are in question,

Is to be yourself, even in places of pain and aggression.

I know myself, who wanted a brother,

Now feels nothing, and wants no other.

What are friends, for the final time?

They are the people who are willing to climb.

You or others, to the mountain you go,

If things will work out, but only fate will know.
