Analysis
As the title of the episode is mentioned above, it will mention the forbidden jutsu, Reaper Death Seal.
As the battles across Konoha rage on, Hiruzen has his clones use the Reaper Death Seal on the Senju brothers. As the corpses used to reanimate the first two Hokages are revealed to be Kin and Zaku, this explains why Hiruzen summoned his Shadow Clones in the previous episode. He wanted to use the forbidden jutsu, the Reaper Death Seal. So, he has managed to seal up the Senju brothers, who once again apologise to Hiruzen for fighting against him. The former hokages had a close relationship with Hiruzen, who was their favourite student. Moreover, judging from their demeanour, they were not only strong but also had a love for the village. It makes one wonder how they died. This question can only be revealed in the sequel, Naruto Shippuden.
Furthermore, Orochimaru highlights how he was just manipulating everyone to get what he wanted. For instance, he used Kin and Zaku as his corpses for the Reanimation jutsu. These two were his students from the Sound Village, which Orochimaru established. They were loyal to him, yet the total disregard he has for his former students’ bodies is baffling. He didn’t even care to bury their dead bodies. Instead, he used them for his selfish intentions, which are the Reanimation Jutsu. Therefore, this means that they were just puppets for Orochimaru, proving that he is selfish and a manipulator who doesn’t care about anyone but himself. It makes one hate him as a character, or even get entertained, since he brings drama to the anime series. Therefore, that is why he is the main antagonist of the Naruto anime series.
Hiruzen reveals that the Reaper Death Seal is a double-edged attack that the Fourth Hokage used to defeat the Nine-Tails with his soul as the price. Having given up two-thirds of his soul to seal the Senju brothers within the Reaper’s stomach, Hiruzen intends to feed what remains of his soul and Orochimaru’s soul to the monster as well. This episode has revealed a bit of history about the Fourth Hokage. So far, we know the Fourth Hokage saved Hidden Leaf Village from the Nine-Tailed Fox. In this episode, it is revealed that the jutsu, the Reaper Death Seal, was used to seal the Nine-Tails Fox at the cost of his own life. This shows that the Fourth Hokage was very courageous, as he was willing to risk his life for the sake of the Hidden Leaf Village. Moreover, the way I see it, Naruto has the Nine-Tails Fox, which means that Naruto was a baby when the Nine-Tails Fox was sealed inside of him. What’s the history behind it? There are so many unanswered questions, which is why there is another anime, Naruto Shippuden, to answer all these questions about the fourth Hokage.
Moreover, the words “forbidden jutsu” seem to always be deadly because they are associated with a deadly price, which is one’s life or someone else’s life. It is more like selling one’s soul in exchange for power.
However, Orochimaru’s Kusanagi stabs the Third Hokage in the back. Hiruzen wants to seal Orochimaru away, but the sword forces Hiruzen to stop the sealing process. What is going to happen next? What will happen to Orochimaru? What will Hiruzen do next? All these rhetorical questions will be answered in the next episode.
Meanwhile, Sasuke again catches up with Gaara, and Kankuro prepares to hold Sasuke off while Gaara escapes with Temari. Before they can begin, Shino Aburame arrives to fight Kankuro, allowing Sasuke to proceed. Shino and Sasuke are similar in the sense that they don’t like unfinished business, especially if they have an opponent they truly want to fight against. If it weren’t for Shino’s interference, Sasuke wouldn’t be able to chase after Gaara; hence, Shino plays an important part in this episode.
