Evan's heart pounded in his chest as the heavy pounding on the door echoed through the cramped space. "Open up, Mr. Pettway! I hope you saved some cake for me!" Agent Clark's mocking voice was laced with a sinister undertone.
"Shit! How did they find us?!" Kyra's voice trembled, her eyes wide with panic, flicking toward Evan, searching for answers.
"I don't know! We need to get out of here!" He glanced around the dimly lit room, his mind racing, echoing the chaotic rhythm of his pulse. The stench of sweat and fear filled his lungs as he tried to think.
"There's no escape, Mr. Pettway." The cold voice sent a shiver down Evan's spine. "You've got yourself in some deep shit. And no matter how far you try to run, we will always be the flies following your scent."
"YOU'RE THE ONLY PIECE OF SHIT HERE!" Kyra yelled, a ferocious undertone to her words, but Evan could see the tremor in her hands, her façade of bravery cracking under the fear's weight.
"Shhhh!" Evan hissed, fear clawing at him as he pressed a finger to his lips. They were already trapped, and he needed to keep them both quiet.
"What? They already know we're here? We're fucked!" Panic bubbled in Kyra's voice, and Evan could feel his own resolve teetering.
His mind raced, a thousand thoughts colliding. He looked at Kyra, noticing the way her breath quickened and her shoulders shook. He had to act fast. There was only one option left. "We have to teleport."
Kyra shot him a sharp glance, skepticism etched on her face. "Have you done it before?"
"No, this would be the first time," he admitted, anxiety tightening its grip on his throat.
"What if it doesn't go right? Like when you first gained your power? What if we teleport and end up-" She hesitated, voice trembling, "-like, when we land, we have no skin or some crazy shit?"
"Skin will grow back," he replied, trying to keep his tone steady, but the fear of failure loomed larger than ever. "I have a feeling he has something worse in mind than skinning us alive."
"BUT I LIKE MY SKIN!" Kyra cried, her words spilling out in a rush of panic, her eyes shimmering with unshed tears.
"Babe." Evan stepped closer, gripping her shoulders, grounding her amidst the chaos. "Do you remember when I promised you I'd keep you safe?"
"Y..." yes." Her eyes searched his, flickering between doubt and trust.
"When I said that, I meant it." He leaned closer, his voice firm and unwavering. "I won't let anything happen to you. You have to trust me on this. This is the only way."
For a moment, time seemed to freeze as Kyra searched his face, her internal battle evident. "I trust you," she finally whispered, though the fear lingered in her tone.
A loud BANG echoed, the door shuddering under the weight of Agent Clark's body as he kicked it repeatedly. "I don't know what you're doing in there, Mr. Pettway, but whatever you're thinking, don't do it! You're just making things worse on yourself!"
Evan's heart sank; they had no time left. "It's time to go," he murmured, more to himself than her.
"Where?" Kyra's voice trembled, anxiety threading through her words.
"I don't know yet, but anywhere but here," he admitted, desperation creeping into his thoughts. He needed to focus and calm his mind.
"If we end up only other side skinless, you owe me another slice of that universal cake!"
He closed his eyes, picturing the only place that ever felt like home-his room, filled with empty pizza boxes and faded posters, a sanctuary where nothing could touch him. Holding Kyra tight, he whispered the word that felt like the anchor to his sanity, "Home."
In that moment, the door exploded off its hinges, and as chaos erupted around them, a portal burst open, pulling them in with a rushing wind that howled like a banshee.
POP! POP!
Two bullet holes marked the spot where the portal had just been, Agent Clark standing in disbelief as he processed what had just happened. "Shit," he muttered, a frown deepening on his brow.
Holstering his weapon, he stepped into the room, his eyes widening at the sight before him. A duffel bag stuffed to the brim with cash sat like a prize on the floor. "Well, this can go towards that dumb bitch for throwing away that tracker," he mumbled.
Looking around the room, he comes across Kyra and evans blueprints
"Robot buddy? The fuck are these two up to?" collecting the scattered blueprints as one of his agents walks in the door he handed to him. "Take these and look them over. We need to see where their mind is. And we need to get to these two as soon as possible before our friends arrive."
As the dust settled around Agent Clark, the door's reverberation still echoing in his ears, the front desk lady strode into the room, her hair a wild mess and her name tag reading "Gertie." She looked at the bullet holes and raised an eyebrow, her tone surprisingly serious.
"Did it really have to come to this? You were so mad that he didn't leave you any cake that You turned my hotel into a scene from an action movie," she said, hands on her hips.
Clark turned to her, his patience wearing thin. "This isn't a joke, Gertie. Do you have any idea what just happened here?"
"You think I don't know?" Gertie replied, crossing her arms. "I can practically smell the trouble from the front desk. And you just gave me some new decor for the room!"
"That's the least of your worries," Clark shot back, his voice low but firm as he collected the blueprints scattered on the floor.
"Why were you allowing fugitives in your hotel? Aren't you supposed to run IDs?" he pressed, his irritation rising.
Gertie's expression shifted slightly. "Well, Evan caught me off guard when he checked in! I thought he was just another handsome underwear model looking for an upgrade. Who could've guessed I was giving room keys to the wrong kind of 'guests'?"
Clark sighed, shaking his head. "Well, that's too bad. Because the two of them are wanted for arson, aggravated assault, and possession of illegal substances with intent to manufacture."
Gertie stood there for a moment, shock washing over her face as she processed his words. "So, you're saying my hotel is a haven for criminals now?"
Clark leaned back against the wall, crossing his arms. "You know how much trouble not just you, but the hotel would be in if authorities found out about this? How about we make a deal? You cover up those two bullet holes, and I won't tell anybody that this hotel is known to harbor fugitives."
Gertie considered his offer, her serious demeanor barely cracking into a smirk. "You drive a hard bargain! But if I'm gonna risk my career for fugitives, I should at least get some perks. How about I get a few stacks out of that duffel bag?."
Clark couldn't help but chuckle. "I think i can do that- now just focus on covering those bullet holes."
"Deal! Just make sure you tell your men to stay out of my way while I'm working. Last thing I need is them turning my front desk into a crime scene!" Gertie replied, moving toward the supplies with a determined look, the chaos slowly fading behind her unwavering, humorous spirit.
As Evan and Kyra tumbled into his room, landing in a disheveled heap on the bed, the weight of their recent escape pressed heavily on their chests. Breathing hard, they shared a long, stunned glance, the surreal nature of their predicament settling in.
"Fuck... what are we going to do?" Kyra's voice cracked, her wide eyes reflecting a swirl of fear and disbelief.
"I don't know," Evan admitted, feeling the knot of anxiety tighten in his stomach. "But we'll figure it out."
"Well, at least we still have skin, i could still use another one of those slices of cake, though."
Before Evan could respond, a piercing scream echoed through the house, sending chills down their spines.
"AH!"
Wide-eyed, they exchanged a glance brimming with dread. "Did you hear that?" Without waiting for a response, they vaulted out of the bedroom, adrenaline coursing through their veins as they sprinted towards the sound.
As they reached the staircase, they heard an unexpected sound of laughter mixed with the remnants of fear. "Don't scare me like that, Essiya!" Evan's mom's voice rang out, a little shaky.
"Ha! I got you!" came the playful reply from his little nephew, Essiya.
Half a breath later, Evan called out, "Hey, Mom!"
The reaction was immediate and explosive. "AHHHH!!" She yelped, nearly jolting out of her skin. Spinning around, her hand instinctively flew to her chest, eyes wide with shock.
"EVAN?! Honey, you scared me! What are you doing back so soon?" Her gaze darted to Kyra, disbelief washing over her features. "Is that... Kyra??"
"Hey, Miss Pettway," Kyra murmured, her voice barely above a whisper as she took in the chaotic scene, still shaky from the sudden rush of adrenaline.
"Hello?" Evan's mom stumbled over her words, her confusion palpable. "How did you two get in? I didn't hear you knock!"
Evan's mind raced, scratching the back of his head, desperately thinking of a plausible explanation. "Oh, we... we came in the back door."
His mom's brow furrowed, skepticism dancing across her face. "Huh? But it was locked too..."
Evan swallowed hard, the pressure of the moment mounting. "Uh, I mean... Essiya let us in," he stammered, each word feeling heavier than the last as he fought to maintain his composure.
"What? No, I did..." Essiya chimed in, his voice cut off by Evan's panic.
"MOOM! I missed youuu!" he blurted out, plunging forward to envelop her in a tight hug, desperation clinging to him like a lifeline.
Evan's mother froze for a moment, stunned not just by the abruptness of his entrance but by the uncharacteristic warmth he displayed. It took her a few seconds to recover from the shock before she wrapped her arms around him. "Oh... I missed you too, honey," she finally breathed, her voice softening.
Essiya, seizing the moment, bounded over to join the embrace, squeezing both Evan and their mother tightly. Yet, in the middle of this poignant reunion, Essiya jerked backward, his nose wrinkling in annoyance.
"Ew! You stink, Tio!" Essiya exclaimed, the innocent bluntness cutting through the emotional tension.
"Essiya, don't talk like that!" Evans mom shot back, a hint of embarrassment flushing his cheeks.
But Evan couldn't deny the underlying truth. A wave of realization hit him-he hadn't showered in days. Given everything that had happened, it was the least of his problems, but it suddenly felt oddly significant.
His mother, recovering from her initial shock, added, "Yeah, I think you could really use a shower, sweety."
Reluctantly, Evan nodded, the reality of his hygiene settling in as he glanced at Kyra, who looked equally disheveled and out of place.
"How about you two go upstairs, take a shower, and get settled? I'll whip something up in the kitchen," his mom suggested, her calm demeanor signaling a slight return to normalcy.
"Sounds great, Mom," Evan replied, forcing a brightness into his tone, albeit laced with an underlying anxiety that he hoped she didn't notice.
Still, something flickered in his mother's gaze as she scrutinized him, a cautious awareness building behind her eyes. But she remained silent as she turned to head into the kitchen, leaving the air thick with unspoken questions.
As they climbed the stairs, Kyra broke the silence. "Well, I never thought I'd meet your mom like this," she said, her voice a blend of disbelief and humor.
"Yeah," Evan chuckled nervously, trying to shake off the tension. "Me either."
After their much-needed showers, Evan and Kyra stepped out, feeling a refreshing weight lift from their shoulders, although a nagging anxiety still lurked in the corners of their minds. As they made their way back to Evan's room, the door clicked shut, sealing them off from the outside world and its looming chaos. They collapsed onto the bed, the moment of silence stretching as they both gathered their scrambled thoughts.
"I need a joint. BAD," Kyra broke the silence, running a hand through her damp hair, her voice laced with urgency.
Evan sighed, shaking his head. "Yeah, I don't smoke weed anymore, but I could definitely use a cigarette, that's for damn sure."
"Then conjure it up, magic man," she teased, arching an eyebrow with a playful smirk, her eyes glittering with mischief.
"Babe, this power should be for important stuff, not weed and cigarettes," he replied, trying to sound serious, but the corners of his mouth twitched upward.
"Coming from the guy who whipped up a duffel bag full of cash right before baking a universal cake that practically drove me to orgasm?" She quipped, crossing her arms.
"Well, yea. But that was diff-" before shaking his head and saying, "yeah, you're right."
"Just imagine a fat doobie and a pack of Newport menthols. Come on, let's do it!" she said, her enthusiasm infectious.
Evan closed his eyes, concentrating hard. He pictured a perfectly rolled joint, thick and fragrant, glimmering under the dim light, alongside a fresh pack of Newport menthols. The blues and greens vivid against the backdrop of his imagination. "Smoke it up," he finally said, the words flowing out as he visualized his desires coming to life.
To his astonishment, a hefty doobie and a neatly wrapped pack of cigarettes materialized right in front of him, their scents almost tangible in the air.
"Got a light?" Kyra asked, her voice muffled as she tucked the joint between her lips.
"Ah shit, nah. Here, I'll make one," he replied, mentally shrugging off the casual air to embrace the task ahead.
"Wait, use your finger!" Kyra exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
"WHAT? My finger?!" Evan sputtered, bewildered. "Weren't you terrified of my teleporting? What if, like, something goes horribly wrong, and I end up setting the whole house on fire?"
"Seriously? I still have my skin, don't I?" she shot back, undeterred by his panic.
"IM SERIOUS, KYRA!"
"Look, babe. I think you need to get more comfortable with your powers. Sure, there've been moments when you've done wild things in the thick of it, but this is just chilling, you know? Gaining control over your abilities will help you master them. You're the one in charge, not your powers controlling you."
"Wow, you haven't even started smoking, and you're already getting philosophical," Evan shot back, a grin creeping onto his face.
"Hey man, we're all just energy!" she declared, adopting a mock hippie accent that had Evan chuckling.
With a reluctant sigh, he closed his eyes and imagined the tip of his finger glowing, summoning a small flame from thin air. "Flame on," he said, channeling his inner comic book hero.
"Poof!"
Just like that, a flickering flame erupted from the tip of his pointer finger, casting a warm glow over the room.
"That's so coooool!" Kyra leaned in, excitedly lighting her joint off his finger. Evan took the opportunity to light up a cigarette as well, letting out a relieved sigh as the buzz from the nicotine began to wash over him, momentarily easing his stress.
As the room filled with smoke, he stood up to crack open a window, needing to let a bit of fresh air circulate.
Suddenly, Kyra's eyes widened. "Shit!"
"What?!" Evan jumped, startled.
"Our blueprints for Robot Buddy! We forgot them!" she exclaimed, the panic evident in her voice.
"Oh yeah! Damn!" he groaned, thumping a palm on his forehead.
"Do you remember what we wrote down?" she asked
"Yeah, most of it, at least," he replied, trying to focus through the haze of the smoke.
"Cosmic superintelligence, the ability to transform, indestructible, with some kind of personality, and a screen on its chest?" he recounted, his expression shifting back to determination.
"Don't forget 'cute'," she reminded him with a playful smirk.
"Cute, right," he echoed, a giggle escaping his lips.
"I think we should get that done ASAP. Those guys will be looking for us, and you're going to need your powers more."
As the smoke curled slowly toward the ceiling, Evan nodded, his mind already racing ahead. "Okay, so let's focus on refining the concept. We need to make sure Robot Buddy stands out. What about integrating some tech to allow it to learn from its surroundings? Like, it could adapt to our moods or the environment, becoming even more... personable."
Kyra's eyes lit up, the gears of her creative mind whirring. "Yeah! Imagine if it could pick up on our stress levels and, like, calm us down if we need it. I love that idea! It could also have some kind of interactive display that changes based on what we need in the moment."
"Exactly!" Evan responded, "And let's not forget about the physical design. It needs to be approachable! Something that feels like a friend rather than a machine."
"Totally," Kyra agreed, taking a puff of her joint. "What if it had these soft edges, maybe even some customizable features? Like we could change its color and design whenever we wanted, make it truly ours."
"Brilliant!" Evan exclaimed, feeling the flow of creativity sparked by their conversation and the atmosphere they had created. "i think it should be small, but able to transform to any size. We can't be walking around with a life size robot."
Kyra grinned, "smart thinkin'"
"Okay, we need to jot all this down! Let's not lose our momentum. Grab my laptop," Evan urged, suddenly feeling the urgency to capture everything swirling in their heads.
"On it!" Kyra sprung to her feet, her enthusiasm contagious as she made her way to the desk. She quickly powered on his laptop, the screen illuminating the dim room.
"Alright, what do you want to start with?" she asked, her fingers poised over the keyboard.
Hours passed, the initial anxiety melting away into laughter and collaborative energy. Finally, as they neared completion of their first draft, Evan leaned back, taking a deep breath of the smoke-filled air.
"Kyra, I think this is going to be something truly special," he said, feeling a newfound weightlessness envelop him-a potent mix of excitement and purpose coursing through his veins.
"If we pull this off, we're going to change the game. Just think about it, a buddy who knows us better than anyone. And not in a creepy way, but in a fun, supportive way," she replied, her eyes gleaming with ambition.
"Yeah, it's like we're creating the ultimate friend. A robot that actually gets it," Evan concluded with a grin, feeling invigorated and ready to tackle whatever came next.
As they wrapped up their ideas, the lingering haze of smoke began to dissappear.
As Evan envisioned Robot Buddy in his mind, he felt a thrill of excitement. Suddenly, with a flicker of light and a gentle whirring sound, Robot Buddy materialized before him, hovering effortlessly just above the ground.
Robot Buddy floated at an adorable height of a little over one foot, with a compact frame that was 6 inches wide. His body was made of shiny, smooth metal, resembling a miniaturized version of a futuristic drone. The surface gleamed in varying shades of blue and silver, catching the ambient light and reflecting it playfully. A friendly round head with oversized, cartoonish eyes sat atop of his cute frame, giving him an endearing and approachable look.
His eyes, large and expressive, were made of LED screens that displayed a spectrum of colors-bright green when happy, a soft blue when curious, and a comical orange when he was ready for some fun.
Robot Buddy's limbs were short and stumpy, with flexible joints that allowed him to gesture with enthusiasm. He had small hands that were surprisingly dexterous, each finger designed like tiny suction cups, adept at grabbing and manipulating objects without causing damage.
Instead of feet, he had a smooth, rounded base that emitted a gentle, glowing blue light, creating a soft halo around him as he floated in the air. The soft hum of miniature propellers embedded within his frame made it clear that he was powered by cutting-edge technology, ensuring a silent and smooth hovering experience.
As he settled down, looking up at Evan with those big, twinkling LED eyes, Robot Buddy took a tiny spin in mid-air, creating a whirlwind of vibrant colors around him before finally stabilizing and looking straight at Evan.
Analyzing data base. Analyzation complete. Objective: Gain Evan's immense power and commence... the destruction of the universe!"
Evan's eyes widened in disbelief, his heart racing at the ominous proclamation, while Kyra let out an incredulous gasp, her mouth hanging open in shock.
"Wait, what?!" Evan exclaimed, staring at the tiny robot in astonishment.
"Haha, nah, just playing, guys! Thanks for making me!" Robot Buddy burst out, the lights in his eyes flashing in a playful rhythm as he hovered proudly.
Evan let out a relieved laugh, shaking his head in disbelief. "You scared me half to death!" he said, still catching his breath, while Kyra elbowed Evan, smirking. "And I thought my sense of humor was dark!"
Robot Buddy whirred in amusement, his cheerful demeanor making it clear that this little machine was bound to stir up all kinds of fun in their lives.
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door.
"Evan, dinner's ready!" his mom called, opening the door just a crack and stepping forward, ready to walk in.
In a moment of pure panic, Evan shouted, "MOM, DON'T COME IN... WE'RE..." Not knowing what to say, he blurts out the first thing that comes to his mind. "WE'RE HAVING SEX!" The words spilled out in sheer desperation, and he cringed as soon as he said it.
There was a pause, and then his mom replied, slightly flustered, "Oh... well... I... um ... just come downstairs when you're ready!"
With an audible sigh of relief, Evan leaned against his desk, processing the near-miss.
"Akwaaaaard!" Robot Buddy chimed in, his LED eyes flickering with playful mischief. "Talk about a family dinner with a side of TMI!"
Evan couldn't help but laugh nervously, shaking his head. "Thanks for that, buddy. Just what I needed." He shot a glance at Robot Buddy, who was practically buzzing with glee at the chaos they had just narrowly avoided.
"Look, nobody can see you. You have to stay hidden," Evan whispered urgently to Robot Buddy.
Don't worry! I'm a pro at hiding. I've been practicing ever since I was programmed to avoid awkward conversations!" Robot Buddy quipped, spinning in mid-air with a mischievous grin. "That's why I won't be joining you two downstairs to eat!'"
Evan chuckled nervously. "We're going downstairs to eat. Just stay up here. We'll be back."
As they made their way down the stairs, his mom called out, "I'll bring your plates to you! You can just have a seat on the couch!"
Once they settled onto the couch, Evan grabbed the remote and turned on the TV. The moment the screen lit up, the news anchor appeared, delivering breaking news.
Breaking News
We interrupt your regular programming to bring you a developing story. Authorities are currently searching for two fugitives believed to be on the run: Evan Pettway, a 26-year-old male, and Kyra Banks, a 23-year-old female.
On September 23rd, coinciding with the recent Ohio asteroid event, it is alleged that Pettway set fire to Banks' home in a fit of rage, fueled by jealousy and suspicion of infidelity. Eyewitnesses report that the blaze was an attempt to cover his actions, using the distraction of the asteroid as a means to evade suspicion.
When police arrived on the scene to conduct a welfare check, they found the house engulfed in flames but did not locate any bodies. Upon further investigation, authorities discovered a methamphetamine lab in the basement, significantly complicating the case.
Charged with arson, aggravated assault, and possession of illegal substances with intent to manufacture, Pettway faces severe consequences, including a potential prison sentence of 15 to 25 years. Meanwhile, Banks is considered a person of interest in the ongoing investigation, as her alleged involvement in the establishment of the meth lab may lead to charges of drug possession and complicity.
Reports indicate that Pettway, coming to terms with the gravity of his actions, chose to flee rather than face the consequences. As both individuals remain at large, authorities urge anyone with information about their whereabouts to contact 911 immediately. If you see either Evan Pettway or Kyra Banks, do not approach them. This situation could be dangerous.
Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
After the news story wrapped up, Evan's mom walked into the living room just as he hurriedly turned off the TV.
"What was that?" she asked, glancing at the now-blank screen.
"Oh, nothing-just covering the comet that landed," Evan replied, trying to keep his voice casual.
"Oh good, I'm just glad you two are okay," she said, a hint of concern in her voice. "I noticed it touched down in the same town where Kyra lived. I tried calling you both, but you didn't answer."
"Yeah, we were pretty shaken up by the whole thing. Didn't really have time to check our phones," Evan said, forcing a smile.
"I understand," she said, nodding. "Well, I'm just glad you're safe. Enjoy your meal, and when you're done, Evan, please come to the kitchen. I have something I want to share with you."
