Chapter 1:

It was a pleasant morning when Vigre saw a garden of full bloomed red roses grown over the green grass. Although there was a time when the growing of roses was as common as the availability of Jades in every man’s pocket but now in a season where the sun hardly came out, it was indeed a rare occurrence to see full bloomed red roses.

It must have rained last night. Vigre turned to his keepsake. Apparently there were millions of them out there. “Perhaps we should rest over there” He said as the wind came along and blew his blond hair all over his face.
They were uneven on both sides. One had his hair reaching down to the hollow under his ear while on the other they only reached the middle of his ear. “Aren’t you tired, Shiwy?”

Shiwy, his little keepsake turned to him still floating in the air but pretending she was walking nonetheless. “Please do not call me by that ridiculous name” The little keepsake was nothing more than a petite fairy. Quite innocent and yet dangerous.

Behind them the clouds cleared up and the water droplets reflected the sun. The light fell on the thick glass housing the garden and was naturally reflected to both their faces. The flowers around them bloomed under the heat of the sun. flowers that would wither as soon as the sun went down.

What a pity.

“Keepsake does not have a name, '' Shiwy was saying. He metally cursed himself. He’d zoned out while they were talking. Shiwy seemed to hate it when he zoned out that way.

“Ah” he said, his eyes sparkling up with mischief “But it needs one” of course a keepsake was supposed to need one, or how would one differentiate their keepsake from someone else’s?

The area they were in was full of fresh flowers unlike the dry lands they’d been in for the last couple of days, it gave Vigre a freshness in his mind now that he was finally around fresh flowers.

Shiwy was annoyed as she made a frustrated sound midair “What an incongruous name for a glorious creature such as myself. Even so, if I were to be named I would pick a more dignified immortal to do so. And yet, I am to be forever bothered by an inappropriate mortal”

Vigre looked pointedly through narrow eyes in Shivy’s direction as he moved towards the garden “Does make one wonder if the keepsakes were perhaps born with the gift of bitter tongues”

“Keepsake’s only wish is to be left to guard a well-educated, dignified, honest, well-respected and famous immortal.” Shivy said, holding her waist like an inflated balloon.

“Quite an extraordinary wish, that one” Vigre perked “perhaps a keepsake has never considered why a well-educated , dignified, honest, well-respected and famous immortal would feel the need to be imprisoned and guarded by a keepsake”

Shiwy’s face grew red and her cheeks inflated. “Hmph” she grumbled like a child being treated meanly.

Vigre couldn’t help but laugh “We should take a break and rest in the garden. Come on! I heard they’re selling sweet water.”

The Garden in the inside was indeed beautiful. He wondered if he could steal a banquet of flowers “Don’t even think about it you thief!” But Shiwy was there. Nothing escaped her eye.
“I have decided to stop drinking sweet water while I’m on an expedition in this filthy world. It makes the impurities stand out.” Shivy chatted as they walked the pathway and looked around at the patterns of different flowers.

He sighed “A keepsake needs serious counselling”

Vigre bought two cups of sweet water from the nun offering the water and passed one to Shivy “If you go on musing about the impurities of the world you might miss the things you could have enjoyed”

“I do not need to be taught a lesson by a mortal as pathetic as yourself. Besides, I am a thousand years older than you.”

Vigre took in her small body and a head almost as wide as her shoulders with two pigtails dangling down her head and small legs that did not touch the ground and remained in the air, floating up and down.

“Yes, yes” he said sarcastically “the nerve!” and giggled on his own.
