“Why would I be afraid of you?” The little girl asks me, squeezing my hand gently and then dropping it. She then starts picking off the petals of the rose.
“Who do you think destroyed your town little one. Who do you think is responsible for your mother’s death?” I ask the little one confused by her answer.
“I was not crying for the loss of my town, nor the loss of my mother.” The little girl replies. Her answer shocks me and I look down at her face. Her eyes are almost emotionless, no ounce of sadness or anger, only regret. “She was a horrible mother and the town was going to execute me anyway. You took away my chance to kill them all.”
Her little fingers snake around my wrist tightening until she heard the crushing of my bones. When I look up at her face I feel horror for the first time since I was young. Since I saw my parents killed by my older brother. Since I killed him. “Why were they going to execute you?” I ask after the initial pain passes. I can feel my servants slowly moving towards us, all I need to do is keep her distracted.
“Why don’t I show you?” The little girl asks coldly. She drops the petals and shoots her hands out to the sides. All of my servants are lifted off of their feet and into the air, tendrils of shadows snaking around their necks and chests. The little girl drops her arms back to her side and I watch as the tendrils snap my servants necks and plunge into their hearts. When I look back at her, her face is made up of shadows and a bone crown rests on her head. She steps closer to me, only a step away from me now. She had crushed my knife hand but I could still fight. “Just make this easier for yourself and stay down it will be over in a second.” She cooes softly.
“I wish I could.” I say standing up and getting ready to fight her. Suddenly her face shifts and I’m left staring at my brother’s face. “No. I killed you! You died by my blade! I stabbed you in your heart after you killed them!” I scream at him, stumbling backwards and falling down.
“That you did. Oh don’t worry Nyxa your brother is dead, you did kill him. But, you are so easy to manipulate. You and your servants would’ve lived past tonight if you hadn’t chosen this town. It’s all your fault that they’re dead. This town would’ve still been killed but all of you would still be alive.” The little girl replies in a singsong voice. Her hands lower onto my neck and tighten crushing my windpipe and my cervical vertebrae. The last thing I see is my brother’s face staring down at me, smiling as I die beneath him.
