It’s starting to look a lot like summer... I don’t like that.

I don’t have good memories of summer, which writing it down now, I realize is a lie. I do have memories from the past when summer meant no school, water-balloons in the yard, trips with the family, BBQ with the family... dang, I do have quite a lot of good memories of the summertime. Where I live, in the summertime, the sky is pretty bright even after 22:00 o’clock, and it kind of feels like the day never ends. Although it’s way too hot for me, in the shades or in the lake or when the breeze hits, it’s not really that bad. A quick walk in the woods would mean unlimited blueberries to munch on, if you’re lucky, even razzberries and my favorite blackberries. We used to go blueberry picking and come home with tons of blueberries. My dad would bake blueberry pies which were too sour to my liking... He’d have this stare if I ever asked for vanilla sauce or ice-cream (ice-cream was usually the safer choice), I don’t know what all that was about though.

Since we didn’t (and still don’t) have any aircons, all the windows and doors of the house would be wide-open. It kind of felt like the lines between outside and inside was gone during the summer. Camping meant even sleeping outside, and although we did it in the yard, and we did sleep inside the camp, it really did feel like we were sleeping outside. I don’t have any memories of bugs...was it because I liked them that they never really bothered me? I don’t know... Oh, I remember now! There was this ant incident. I think I or my brother left some pieces of a chocolate covered cornflake in the tent, and the next morning, there was this big ant construction going on in the corner of the tent. Ants are really fascinating if you look closer. I think teamwork and work ethic at its finest can be seen in those little creatures. Oh, and grasshoppers and bees are also active during the summertime. I am still the best in the house to let the bees out of the house.
