I had stayed in the band room for the whole recess, practicing my music but eventually the bell rang, signaling the end of second recess. Kids started to flow inside the room yet my eyes seemed to linger for someone else. Earlier that day during lunch he sat right behind me in a different booth, and we talked to each other briefly, teasing words being shared and faint smiles and smirks. One of his friends said that he just talked about how he liked me, but I knew who the kid was and only barely believed him. Eventually seeing him enter back in the band room I watched as he just wandered around the room, getting his instrument as I started to talk with the only other clarinet player. Throughout the practice I would turn over and sometimes me and him would talk, a bit nervous while talking to him but I refused to show it. He would whistle as if cat calling me once I turned my back, but once I turned over to look at him he would just smile and playfully look away. While I know that's no way he should act, I couldn't help but lightly scoff and turn around. But during the only trombone player doing his solo, my body turned to face the person doing his solo. I caught a glimpse of him staring at me, and I glanced over, his eyes locked onto mine and a smile on his face. His eyes were wide like a puppy’s, his smile no different. I smiled slightly, my eyes locked onto his. “What?” I asked, wondering how long he had been staring at me like he was purely in love. “Nothing.” He said, looking away playfully with a smile still on his face.
