(A group of soldiers wearing scarlet colored bandanas are lined up in formation inside Fort Blood. The fort is a typical western military fort. Surrounded by wooden walls and rickety shacks, a few tents and several watch towers. A soldier with a bugle stands in the front with COMMANDER EDWARD SCARLET. The solider plays a short order tune on his bugle. As he does the soldiers all stand at attention at once. Their discipline is obvious. )

(Two soldiers in their early thirties and one who couldn't be any older than twenty step forward. All are very physically fit. Butch has short reddish brown hair and a well trimmed mustache and facial hair. He is very handsome even with the scar that runs from his left cheek to his neck. His vest is weighed down by all the pins and medals he has on it. It is obvious that he is an incredibly decorated soldier. MONTY is much shorter in stature and far less handsome. He has longer dark hair and is very freckled. He has a steely look in his eyes. BANKS is skinny and marked with acne and his face still looks very young.)

He was seventeen when he earned the title of Red Blade. Before long he bested the head instructor and earned the title of First Blade. Nearly every one of you standing here have taken part in his swordsmanship and knife training classes. Many of you have a scar or two to remind you of the sparring session you had with him. He is one of the finest instructors and greatest swordsman that the Brigade has ever seen. He has served with honor and pride. He shall be considered a brother of good standing with the Scarlet Brigade for the rest of his days.

Major Butch Scarlet was taken in orphaned and penniless at the age of ten. His only request for payment was that we find his sister a decent place to live and work. Over the years he has proved to be an outstanding officer and soldier. His valor on the battlefield has been proven time and time again. He has been awarded just about every award and medal that we have to give. Many of you here wouldn't be alive today if it wasn't for this man. I could go and tell story after story of his courage during scrapes. I could tell you about the time he and I were in a hole and outnumbered by the Kyawai five to one. I could tell you how I was sure we were going to die and I could tell you how he got us out of that shitstorm in tact, but I won't because you would demand he stay and become the new Grand Commander. And I've grown quite fond of my cushy job.
