The wind was ever so loud as it swept through the sky. It could be heard howling through the gaps in houses and blasting through the leaves of trees. No sane person would wander about in such ghastly weather. No, you’d watch from inside the safety of a building. And that’s what the black cat did; they watched the storm from a windowsill with fascinated eyes and a little feather entangled in their paws.898Please respect copyright.PENANA5nUvYKi5ji
They always watched the wind. They watched it because the wind reminded them of a little birdie that got caught up in a storm; in a storm just like this one actually. Caught up in a storm and unable to fly away, that was the black cat’s precious little bird.898Please respect copyright.PENANAdsiFbrDKxn

On a different stormy day where the wind was so brutal it was hard to keep yourself standing, the black cat slept on a windowsill. They didn’t care about all the wind and noise and just wanted to sleep all the sounds away. But as they slept they faintly heard the sound of chirping. It was a bird. The cat knew that birds meant food and the thought of food made them hungry. So, the black cat opened their eyes to notice a fragile little bird lying outside coated in snow white plumage. It looked tired, it looked young, it was easy prey.898Please respect copyright.PENANArFklod62RX
The black cat lazily got to their paws and padded their way across the cold tiles of the floor and to the cat flap in the door. They then hopped outside and kept their body low to the ground while scanning over the area to the little white birdie.898Please respect copyright.PENANAImZ9dRuvrE
When the white bird locked eyes with the black cat they made no attempt to move, that’s how tired they were. They’d just given up, and the black cat could sense that. But despite their regular instincts to rush over and catch the creature before it changed its mind, the black cat felt sad to see the tired bird. So, going against normality, the black cat shuffled over to the wind battered bird and gently took hold of them in their mouth. They then pawed their way back inside the warm house they came from.898Please respect copyright.PENANAk4v8aZUYSk
The black cat brought the bird to the windowsill they sat at previously and cleaned their ruffled feathers. And the bird just sat there confused. But, over time the confused bird disappeared and became a happy bird. And the black cat and the bird ended up sleeping with one another as the storm bellowed outside. They kept each other warm… okay; it was more like the cat was keeping the bird warm.
The storm passed and the two animals were awoken by the cooled winter air brushing against their fur and feathers. Snow had set that night so the animals were greeted to a white wonderland outside their window.898Please respect copyright.PENANAwh5rRC2cxm
Excited, the black cat grabbed the little bird and took them outside and flopped into the snow; after placing the bird on the ground though. The bird let off an amused coo and hopped across the top layer of snow toward the cat. They weren’t heavy enough to sink into the snow, unlike the cat.898Please respect copyright.PENANA9vVuNexJnO
Pretty much lost in a flurry of white snow, the cat dashed under the frozen powder leaving raised mounds of snow on the top layer. The little bird followed the cat from above and cooed every now and again in a sort of “are you there or are you here?”898Please respect copyright.PENANAFGiaDiM8Wf
After some time had passed the cat and bird’s little guessing game ended when the black cat burst from the bitter snow and pounced on the bird playfully and started to chase their snow coated tail. The little bird played with the cat happily for a while but soon turned their gaze to the sky and watched as the sun soared across it. The bird had to leave and the cat had already guessed this was so, so the cat let off a small mew, a goodbye. The bird nodded in response and rummaged its beak through its feathers before plucking a loose feather from their coat and handing it to the cat. Afterward, the bird took flight into the sky and bid the cat farewell with the promise of return.898Please respect copyright.PENANATTOa2VzL5i

The black cat always recalled this memory when they watched the wind brush through the trees. The black cat waited for the day when the snow would fall once again and they could meet their precious little bird again. Perhaps today was not the day and maybe it would be; all the cat could do was wait for the bird to fly on back. But the black cat grew tired while sitting at the windowsill and ended up falling asleep while holding onto memories.898Please respect copyright.PENANAyQdqdhREgD
Sleeping…sleeping, the black cat slept until they were awoken to the sound of glass tapping. It was a gentle sound made by something small. When the black cat’s eyes opened they met the eyes of a familiar white bird. With an excited purr the black cat jumped to their paws and made their way outside and toward the winter wonderland just beyond the door, leaving only a small white feather on the pillow they slept on. This was the only time that that little white feather would not be by the black cat’s side.
