And it came down to a flicker

But even flickers die out

And I can see why this happened again

Even if I will never understand it

I used to think there was something wrong

But now I just realize that it’s something wrong with me

And if that was all I will ever get

Well then, I guess that’s just the way it’ll be

And I told myself to keep the walls up

So, I built them taller than April in Paris

And that way when the bombs hit

At least some of the rubble would shelter it

Except the bombs just kept on coming

And my heart never recovered quite that quick

So, when I left for Vienna

I really thought that would be the end of it

But the truth is that it just never got easier

And the walls are now made of sticks

Just one final blow

And this time my heart might not recover from this
