the first time you leave your own mind

you remember

a place where the sun is golden

and the breeze is gentle

looking around

you fool yourself into believing

you were meant for this world.

there is stardust in your veins

and iron in your heart

choose a road

and turn blindly from the sun.

it is a dark path through the forest

and lingering in dreams

won’t keep you safe

no matter how much you pretend it will.
