The quiet hum of the garage generator

quietly perculates an ageless silence,

as me and my brother sit in the corner;

armed with cheap cans and two special cigarettes,

surrounded by boxes of artefacts from our childhood.

Cans click open and we inhale nonsense

and lapse into conversations of detailed nothing,

as the smoke curls up into the rafters

and the generator hums on soothingly.

Then the nonsense takes hold,

our talking peters out

and we silently marvel at the music

that quietly purrs from my little square speaker.

And there we stay for a few hours of eternity

up in the astral planes and in awe of everything,

blissfully ignorant of everything outside

of that generators hushed thrumming.
