When Elliot enters Dion and Gavin's office, holding a guard uniform, Nadine gave him, there is a young man present, mopping the floor. "Wait, I know you." He whispers. The young man looks at him. "Uh, hello?"
"Hey."
"Hi."
"Uh, I'm Elliot."
"Levi."
"Coleman."
"Preston."
"Why are we doing this?"
"You tell me."
"Sorry, sorry! I-"
"Is their anything I can help you with, Elliot?"
"Are you a prisoner?"
"Are you? Because you're acting nothing like a guard."
"That's debatable..."
"Right, well... I need to continue mopping, Elliot."
"No, it's-"
"It's what?"
And then Levi turns his head, looking up at security cameras in the corner. "D-did they just go off...? Is this some kind of trick to get me in trouble? If ya'll are going to harvest me, I am going to go out fighting." He says, raising his mop, ready to give Elliot a smackdown.
"No, please! You don't have to do this! I know you!"
"And I don't know you! Why the hell did the cameras go out?!"
"How the hell should I know? I'm in here with you, not in one of the control rooms around here."
Levi sighs. "Sorry, look. Just give it to me straight. Are you guys going to kill me or not?"
"I don't know, but I could find out. May or maybe not have a girl kinda wrapped around my finger. Surely I could get ahold of a harvest list."
"So impressive." Levi says, rolling his eyes. "But that still doesn't answer how you know me!"
"You know Vincent Lopez."
And Levi drops his mop. "Yeah..."
Elliot gestures for him to continue. "You should already know, you're staff. Wait, who did you sleep with? You said you could get ahold of a harvest list. Only Supervisors or the leaders right up top have access to that... Or one of the doctors."
"Nobody! Well, not yet anyway..."
"So you are going to sleep with someone!"
"I-You keep changing the topic very fast, it's hard for me to catch up."
"Sorry, I sometimes move fast..."
"Look, I know Vincent Lopez too. I have seen a photo of you before, he keeps one in his wallet, his in the photo with you."
"....He was my old workmate."
"His mine too, current actually." Elliot says, looking around to make sure the door is shut and listening to make sure no one is coming and that the security camera is still off, unsure who's controlling it. Maybe there is a saboteur, one that's not affiliated with the military.
A whistle-blower as Nadine May would phrase. "I and Vincent used to work for a delivery company. Parcels, furniture, some weird oddities and other stuff..."
"I know."
"W-what's he doing now? I haven't seen him in so long..."
"His in the military."
"Are you?"
"Yes. Levi, how long have you been here?"
"You mean kidnapped?"
"Yeah."
"Years? I lost track. Same amount of time that blonde girl supervisors been here and in charge."
"Nadine May."
"Yeah, her."
"Can I ask how it happened?"
"What happened?"
"Was your place of residence broken into and they took you out of bed, or-"
"Actually, I got a package to deliver, last one for the day. I was still working for the postal company. The address was for a warehouse, when I arrived, it looked abandoned. I went inside and someone hit me across the head. Next thing I knew I was waking up in the infirmary here.
Does Vincent think I ditched him? We used to be the best of friends... I don't have my phone obviously, they probably destroyed it, and my wallet with ID as well no doubt. We used to text eachother all the time, but not anymore obviously."
"I don't know, he doesn't really talk about you. His been kinda quiet lipped actually whenever someone asks him about the photo of you both in there.
Levi..."
"What?"
"Do you know you're in a different country? I had to illegally cross another country's boarder to get here... This isn't the U.S."
Levi's eyes widen, mouth agape and his mop bounces as it hits the floor.
"Nadine never told you? No doctor ever said a word? You're in Canada.."
Levi collapses to the floor, breathing staggered. "Levi, do you want a hug? Can I approach you?" Elliot offers gently, taking some steps forward. He drops the guard clothes on the floor.
Levi lets him hug him and he shivers in Elliot's hold.
"N-no."
"It's okay, I'm not going to let anyone hurt you."
"That's not something you can promise." Levi murmurs as the cameras turn back on. "Shit." Elliot says under his breath as the door to the room opens only an inch. They stare at it in horror, but no one comes in, they can see someone briefly standing outside.
"You need to find Bobby Green, now." A voice says, sounding distorted. They're speaking softly as to disguise it, it sounds. "Why? Who are you?" Elliot says. "Come out in the open where we can see you."
"You're friends will die if you don't go now."
And whoever it is, slinks away. "Uh, you stay here, okay, Levi? I-I need to uh- go." Elliot says, hurriedly stripping and pulling on the guard clothes. His not going to get far alone, dressed in prisoners clothes otherwise and then rushes out the door, leaving Levi who did not look away when Elliot changed...
He runs through the building, down corridor after corridor. Some doors inaccessible to him as he does not have a key when someone grips him by the shoulders. "Elliot!!!"
"Thea?" He responds worried. "They took Maxis and Kiera downstairs! And only people who are going to be harvested get taken downstairs! You have to get down there! Now!"
"But I don't have a key! And what could I say to diffuse this situation?!"
"You know Dion and Gavin! They think you're family, try to get through to them. Say something, anything! And one of the Guards gave me this key-ring, told me to give it to you."
And she hands him a key-ring, Bobby's ID hanging off it. "Did the man in this photo give it to you?"
"What? No, um- I-it was a guy a few years younger, he had blonde hair. Was a guard himself, t-that's all I know! Now go, get downstairs, Elliot!"
"But-"
"Kiera's in love with you! Is that justification enough to go?!"
His speechless, nods and takes off running. It doesn't take him long to find the basement, he found a map on a wall and he slides Bobby's keys into the door and takes off down the stairs, descending deeper.
It's dark down here with shitty excuse for lights in the ceiling and the antiseptic smell is as bad as it was last night.
He starts creeping down the corridor, peering in the door of every room he comes across, they're all cells when he sees a security room, larger than usual off the side and no guesses who's inside.
He runs up to it, presses down on the handle, when someone pushes the door open from the inside, knocking Elliot to the floor, face bruised.
"Oof, you idiot..." Bobby whispers, bending down and dragging Elliot in by his feet. "Shoulda known better than to have come here." He adds on, under his breath.
---
When he comes to, his head is throbbing and the room slowly comes into focus. He sits up straight, realizing his in a chair, but then feels metal cuffs, his arms behind his back, linked through the back of the chair.
Bobby, Nadine May, Gavin and Dion and Bonnie are present.
"What's going on? Why are you doing this?!" Elliot says, the room now starting to spin a tad. "You tell us, Mr Military. You've changed, way different than the teenager we took in when you had no one, nothing and this is how you repay us? Turning your back on family?
Family doesn't consist of just blood." Dion snaps, Gavin smirking in the background.
"To think I liked you, really liked you." Nadine hisses.
"Yeah, that surprised me when I heard. You rarely actually sleep with people, let alone make out with them... There's supervisors here with far higher body counts too." Bobby retorts.
"I didn't make out, make out with this, smhuck! I kissed him once on the cheek and that was it-" But Gavin cuts her off.
"Quit you're bickering, you two! Sort out your differences NOT on company time!"
"Sorry, Gavin." Nadine apologizes. "Sorry, Sir." Bobby adds on.
"Why are you here, Elliot? What's your mission, what are you hoping to accomplish?" Dion says, taking a seat, hands together and looking exhausted.
He looks down at his feet and doesn't say anything. "Oh, that's how we're going to play this is it? Okay, sure.
No problem, you can take all the time you need in a isolation cell down here... again. When you decide you want to play Happy Family, we'll talk." Dion responds to Elliot's silence.
"So, what do we do with Maxis and Kiera, Dion? They're obviously affiliated with Elliot. We did kidnap her off a Military base, no doubt she's one of them, Maxis too."
"Ugh, getting in there was the hardest.
She was so far from her home here, she's a Canadian citizen, Elliot. She bit me and is the reason I lost my fucking ring."
"......"
"You really don't want to talk do you?" She says, bending down to lecture him.
"What are you going to do to Kiera and Maxis? You're obviously just going to throw me in a cell and be done with me."
"Gavin, Dion." She says, standing back up straight.
"Kiera's going to be transferred on as before, she did pay for her and offered up additional money for us to find her." Dion says. "Who is buying her?!" Yells Elliot.
"Shut up." Nadine says, slapping Elliot across the jaw. "Ouch." He groans.
"Gavin? You go ahead and make the call about this, 'Maxis'. I trust you, now if you will excuse me, I need to go call our donor and let her know she can come early and collect Kiera." Dion tells Gavin, walking away, leaving him with Bobby, Nadine and Bonnie who hasn't said a word.
"Well then, decision time!" Gavin says enthusiastically. "What do you want us to do with 'Maxis', Gavin?" Nadine enquires.
"Hmm... I think... Prepare an operating theater, at 5 a.m, you take him in. Is that clear and understood, Bonnie?"
"Yes, Sir. I'll prepare my team again right away." She says, bowing and leaves. Gavin leaves too. Elliot gulps.
They're going to harvest him tomorrow, sell Kiera on at the same time and just lock himself, Elliot up till he talks?
"So, where are we throwing him? Cause I'm due to clock off... My shift is over, I have to get home to my girl."
"Uh, just thrown him in with Kiera and Maxis. They can all say their final goodbyes to eachother, it's just one night." Nadine orders. "Alright, come here, Elliot." Bobby says, unlocking the cuffs from the chair, having him stand up, but then re-locking them as he pushes him out of the security office, leaving Nadine behind.
"How'd he get Bobby's keys and I.D? It disappeared earlier when Bobby was showering. Elliot had no keyset to get into the shower quarters, let alone anywhere else, restricted as such..." She whispers, back to them as she holds Bobby's keys in her hand, turning it over.
---
"Kiera, please, please, don't say or even think that. I sware I'll get you out of here even if it costs me my life!" Maxis argues with her as Bobby opens the door to their cell, they stop arguing and look at him. "Got your friend here for both of you." He says, unlocking Elliot's cuffs, pushing him inside. "Goodnight, all of you..." As he begins to close the door.
Elliot tries to shove it back open, but Bobby is stronger so he pushes his foot instead, it hurting him. "Bobby, Bobby, listen to me, please."
"Elliot-"
"I beg of you, please. Ring the U.S embassy. You're a good guy on the inside, I know it. Just call somebody."
"Are you seriously suggesting I blow the whistle? I have a fiancé, Elliot as well as my studies. She's actually pregnant, I found the pregnancy test. She hasn't told me yet. And... she's a cop. I don't want Gavin putting a bounty on my and her head, as well as our unborn child's."
"Bobby, please."
"No, and that's final. Do not ask again or I will have Bonnie give you a sedative, understood? Now remove your goddamn foot."
And Elliot takes a step back, removing his foot which is throbbing.
"Goodnight." Bobby says, sighing and he closes the door, pulling the window up on the door that it's almost pitch black in the cell.
"Don't lecture me on life if you have no problem giving up yours! Elliot and I cannot go back home alone without you! We'd both fall apart!" Kiera screams at Maxis, them continuing their argument. "Kiera, Maxis!" Elliot yells and they both are quiet.
"Look, I know you like me, Kiera and you like me too, Maxis and I know you both actually had a fling while I was on the run, sick with Hanahaki."
"How did you do-" Maxis begins. "How is not important now. We need to figure out a plan to get out of here, they're going to kill you at 5 a.m tomorrow, Maxis. Kiera, they've got a buyer for you, she, whoever she is coming to collect you early, that's taking place tomorrow too."
"I know, why do you think I escaped, Elliot?" Kiera says.
"How did you escape?"
"It's not dramatic if that's what you're asking. Nadine May was new, she made mistakes and I slipped out the back entrance through the loading dock for the kitchen after hours. I ran for my life, it was cold and it's amazing I made it.
I just kept going and somehow I actually ended up at a beach connecting Canada to the U.S. The beach was secluded, seems it was a zone not being monitored and I just walked right through, and then stumbled upon your Military base somehow, sometime.."
"Kiera, that's a 6 hours and 52 minute walk from the boarder to us." Maxis says, and she shrugs.
"I-You should have told us the whole truth sooner. What happened to you, everything." Maxis says. "And what is the truth?" Elliot asks and Maxis begins to tell him what she just told him before Elliot was escorted in. When his done, Elliot is silent.
"Now you both know who I am... They're going to revoke my visa aren't they? I'll be forced to stay here in Canada, I don't have a life here anymore."
"No, I'll talk to... our General. You're coming home with us, Kiera. And back to when we just argued, you're right... I want to take care both of you. But it feels like you both don't let me at times."
"Self-sabotaging is a thing, Maxis... Let go of the reigns a bit, we are adults." Kiera points out. "But Kiera, you didn't speak for months, you we're afraid the dark and you vomited anytime we fed you something that was solid at first.
It was clear you we're traumatized and affected by whatever happened to you.
And Elliot, you we're a young and stupid teenager. While you did infact grow up, you aren't good at some things like cooking, folding laundry, filing taxes. I still have to certain things for you. You're lucky I don't tell the General.
Listen, you both need to let me figure out how to get us out of here, neither of you do a thing. You we're reckless, Elliot and you're the reason we're in this mess, you had you're orders you we're not supposed to be on this mission.
Don't do a single damn thing without my say so.
And you, Kiera before Elliot came in here, just admitted to having self harming while here and feeling actively suicidal, you're not in the right mind right now to be making any decisions either.
Elliot and Kiera are silent, looking guilty when they hear the sound of a door slamming in the distance. Kiera shrieks, leaping into Maxis arms, knocking him back. "I'm scared, I'm scared, it's dark in here! The room is closing in!"
"She's goanna get medically discharged when we're back home." Elliot says. "Oh yeah, no doubt. You will be, Kiera..." Maxis says, but she doesn't say anything.
"We need to distract her somehow." Elliot whispers into Maxis ear. He sighs, "Shock therapy is the best distraction I guess, I don't know what else to do." Maxis responds.
"What do you mean, Max-"
"Elliot. Kiera, look at me, peaches. I know both your pains, I know why you are on Peterson's team and I'm on the taskforce because I am just as troubled as you both, but you both already know, just not why. And, the General is also my Dad.
"What." Elliot says, his eyes round. "You're Dad?" Kiera says.
"Yeah, I'm from the foster care system. You we're given up and didn't know you're family, Kiera and when you we're arrested as a teenager and sentenced to juvie, Elliot, you we're assigned into it too. Guess that is one thing we all have in common. You're parents illegally abandoned you, Elliot, you didn't have a family since birth, Kiera and my parents died when I was a baby.
"How did they-" Kiera asks.
"Tornado, ripped the town my parents we're in apart. The Military assisted with the carnage, they we're in the area. I was found wrapped up in a blanket lying in my crib in a small bunker underneath their house. No one knows why I was alone there, guess I just got mega lucky.
Universe must have wanted me alive, I was placed in the foster care system, but only lasted one week. The very next week, the General adopted me. So, his my Dad. He had a girlfriend actually, her name was Lea, but... she died... breast cancer, Elliot not long after I was rescued and adopted.
I've seen photos of her."
"And you're on his team to follow you're Dad's footsteps? You must be proud of you're Dad. His a strong, brave man and-"
"No, I was a brat as a kid, Elliot. Tween too, I didn't stay cute beyond toddler age. The amount of times I acted out and also told him I hated him, that I wished he wasn't my Dad. There was even a point I told him I hoped he died and wished he didn't come back from a mission. One day, I almost got my wish.
That was the worst 72 hours of my life. I was 11, turning 12. He missed my 12th birthday during that time he was missing. When he came back alive, all I could do was apologize and cry, hug him and beg him never to leave me again. I needed him. From that day forward, we got on better and I quit acting out. It was hard having a General as a Dad.
But I was just too young to comprehend why he wasn't around sometimes and didn't get why he acted the way he did.
He was strict at times, but also fair and loving. His strictness was because he was a General. Not because he didn't love or want me. I had a lot of anxieties, I jumped rapidly to far fetched conclusions. I was the problem, it was never him.
He put me in counseling for years after that and later, I graduated from the academy as the Military's youngest pilot later on. I decided at 17 - I wanted to join the Military, he supported it.
You know why? So I could understand the other half of his world I never saw. I really began to understand it, and the work is rewarding. We help people, prevent wars... or... finish them. Actually, sometimes we even start them...
I'm on my Dad's team so the counseling and support is available if I need it just like the rest of us. Every member. You, Kiera, Vincent, Allie, Thea. The twin duo, Adam and Derrick and the hundreds of others just like us.
And so he can keep an eye on me. I'm sorry I never told you he was my Dad, I lied to you for all these years, Elliot. I told him to be scarce when you came over so he went to the fast food joint down the street every single time and did crosswords and sudoku in the newspaper.
And sorry for not telling you, Kiera when you moved in."
"How does it feel to tell us?" Elliot asks.
"Like I got a load off my chest actually, I've never told anyone. Vincent and Allie don't know... Well, uh- other than the numerous mental health staff I had seen. I've never told a normal person, a friend. I've had friends, but no one I trusted as much as you and Kiera. So, uh, what now? I'm out of conversation topics."
"Romance?" Elliot brings up. "What does us liking each-other make us? Is it wrong? We just treated my Hanahaki, but then glossed over it for obvious reasons and everything else cause they took you, Kiera."
"What was Hanahaki? You didn't explain it to me really at the time, Maxis."
"I was very sick, Kiera. Medically and it was affecting my behavior and thinking. Looking back on it, I made very poor decisions and I don't know what I was thinking. I had a few cysts, two pits of roses surprisingly. Red and pink ones. But when they removed them, the pink one had been found to have died, shriveled up like a prune.
The red was still actively sprouting though, they removed that too.
Apparently there is about a 100 cases every year. Most people die from it. Guess I got lucky it was caught before it killed me. I only had a few days at most, good thing I came back when I did."
"What causes it?" She asks. "That's what science hasn't figured out yet. They developed a treatment, but it's far from a cure." Maxis tells her.
"Will you get it again, Elliot?" She asks. "I hope not. They said most people who get it, contract it repeatedly. But not all, hope I'm lucky twice. I don't know how I will live with it if it becomes chronic."
"You could join clinical trials for it? Where your Mum, Scarlett works, they do run clinical trials for it." Maxis speaks up. "Testing other drugs, other options beside drastic surgery."
"Would you ever consider that?" Kiera asks me. "I guess, I don't want to die from it." Elliot tells her.
"Are you going to have a relationship with your Mum one day?" She adds on.
"Maybe... Just forgiving the people who hurt us is hard, and if we ever get out of here..."
"Yes." She says. "Especially when those people are ourselves sometimes too." Maxis says. "Bad choices, making mistakes."
It's silent between us for a second. "I'm glad we had this group tell all." He adds on.
"Yes." Elliot speaks. "Me too." Kiera says. "We've never opened up to each-other before like this."
"Can I drag us all back to the elephant in the room? Romanceee!" Elliot laughs shyly.
"Uh, right." Maxis says. "Mmmm..." Escapes Kiera's mouth. "Can three people love each-other?" She asks.
"What will people think?"
"It's not black and white and I don't want to be that person who says who cares what others think, they're not the ones who are going through the pain each of us are in, but... I've seen occasional articles before about this...
Some people are in a 3 or more way relationship." I speak up.
"That makes me feel a little bit better about it..." Kiera says. "I want to talk to my Dad, or tell my counselor. I always talk about my feelings with someone who's goanna be neutral and not directly involved in my situation." Maxis says. "I tell my Dad everything."
"I hear that." Elliot tells him. "We hear that." Kiera adds on.
"So, what now...? What do you both want to do?" He asks. Kiera and I open our mouths to respond when we all cry, and shield our eyes at light blinding us.
Someone's shining torches directly into our eyes, they've flung our door open.
"Elliot Coleman, Maxis Peterson and Kiera Bailey."
It's Bonnie standing there with some guards behind her. "Where's Bobby and Nadine?" Elliot says.
"They both finished their shift and went to home to bed."
"So, why are you here?"
"I have a sedative for you all, you're being too chatty."
"Like hell you are!" Maxis growls when staff charge into the room, pinning everyone down. It's painful for Elliot to listen to Maxis and Kiera's frightened screams. He doesn't so much as scream as yell, fixated on them.
"Joyce, Luke. Bring Kiera out will you, I just need to do a quick physical for her, sign off on some more paperwork for KV's arrival and she will be good to go. We'll bring her back, boys for the rest of the night." Bonnie says.
"Let go of me! Let go of me! I love you, I love you both!" Kiera cries as others pull her out the cell, handcuffing her arms behind her back. She kicks and screams, fighting, the drugs having not a had chance to work yet on her.
"You bitch, you evil bitch!" Maxis hisses. "Doctors are not supposed to hurt people."
"And everyone changes eventually. For better or for worse, we heard every word of you're conversation." Bonnie retorts back, and she closes the door.
"Well, that could have gone better. Me and my big mouth sometimes... Shit." Maxis says. "Elliot-" He begins, turning to face Elliot when he sees him not moving, eyes closed. "Elliot, Elliot! Wake up, wake up!" He panics, shaking his friend and crush.
But Elliot's completely out of it and Maxis bury's his head in his knees, clenching his hair with his fingers. "I'm going to get us out of here, I'm going to get us out of here. I promise, I'll come up with something!"139Please respect copyright.PENANAk8kDUjFLgG
