Ariana's Pov
In the blink of an eye, I am being charged at by what seems to be a dozen guards and a King who looks almost feral.
I'm almost tackled down by a guard who lunges at me from behind, his claws almost digging into my left shoulder blade as I narrowly dodge him by kicking him in his stomach.
The second he is falls, another two guards pounce on me, both in their wolf form, as they knock me down so that my head smashes against the stone floor. I wince, pain radiating through my skull as I am left feeling almost faint from the impact. I'm not given a moment to get my bearings straight when I see one of the guards closing into my leg to sink its canines into my flesh.
Something between absolute fear and adrenaline bursts through my veins, the world seeming a lot clearer the second it settles in. Everything seems to slow down, and something in my mind seems to finally click before I know it I have kicked the guard who was about to sink his canines into me across the room. My hands find their way to the other wolf's neck, the beast growling while it tries to sink its canines into my neck. I sink my claws into its neck before pushing it to the side, the wounded animal whimpering out loud at the impact as it hits the ground.
I stand, my body shaking with adrenaline as another wolf tries pouncing on me again. This time, I am ready as I grab its jaw and pull down at it with all my might so that the wolf's jaw detached from the rest of its head. I throw the wolf to the side when I know it's lifeless and has no meaning, my hands covered in blood as I wipe them against my dress.
I look around the room and notice the astonishment and terror printed on the faces of the courtiers. Something about their fear almost gives me some sickly satisfaction.
No one will hurt me.
Not today.
I look to the other side to see the other guards almost paralysed with bewilderment and fear. It's not common to see a female as strong as me, especially when they don't even have a wolf. They probably expected me to be weak like every other female. Oh, how they were so damn wrong...
I'm about to attack the other wolves when I feel the Kings hand go around the back of my neck in a chokehold as he lifts me into the air. I wheeze in his hold as I trash my lower body side to side. He turns me around before landing a punch on my face. My vision blurs as I see black dots spiral around me as I take another of the kings blows.
I feel blood begin to fill my mouth as he throws me back so that my head smashes against a wall. I wheeze coughing out blood, as my death in the form of the King slowly saunters towards me. I try sinking back into the wall, my body trembling with fear as I feel the King's power surround me. It's suffocating. His dark blue eyes show no mercy from the corner of my eye I see him extend his claws. I squeeze my eyes shut, waiting for their impact.
I wait for the pain of death to seep through my bones, but it never comes. Instead, I hear a scream and a crash. I open my eyes to see that the King is no longer looking at me, but at the disaster in the courtroom, the crystal chandelier that once hung high in the ceiling now lies shattered on the proclaim floor. People are lying motionless underneath the mess as blood pools around them.
It doesn't take a genius to guess that they're dead, a crowd of people already starting to gather around them.
The King no longer pays attention to me, giving me enough time to slowly move away, and through the crowd and out of the courtroom unnoticed.
I'm running down the hallway, my mind scattered as I try to think of a way out of the palace. There was no way in hell I could stay here. They would kill me the second they found me.
I slow down, realising that no one was following me. I slowly walk into a deserted hallway, the candlelights dim on this side of the palace. This side of the palace was usually dark, with very few windows letting in sunlight. The walls of the hall are filled with portraits, some of old Kings and Queens and others of noble warriors and fighters. Like the rest of the palace, the floor was draped with a red chiffon carpet, but unlike the rest of the palace, the floor on this side had accumulated more dust and debris in comparison to the rest, suggesting that this side of the palace had most likely been abandoned for a while now.
I walk towards a door, hoping that the room inside is empty. Turning the door knob, I find it locked. Cursing my luck, I continue to walk further down the hallway. The further I walk, the colder it seems to get as the darkness that surrounds me becomes more poignant and thick. I reach a door and turn the door knob just as a hand clasps around my mouth, catching my scream and turning my world black.
