Ariana's PoV
I pace around my cottage frantically, my mind jumbled up. What had I gotten myself into?
I have to apologize to my sister by kissing her feet in front of the entire court. It is probably the most degrading thing I have ever agreed to.
What was I thinking?
I must be one of the stupidest people in the world for agreeing to apologize to someone who made their life goal to belittle me in every single way. But then again what other choice did I have, if I didn't do this I most likely would have to spend the rest of my life stuck with her in this godforsaken place, reminiscing the fact that she and her so-called mate decided to play a cruel joke on me.
I'm almost ready to scream out in frustration at my thoughts when the door to my cottage is harshly pushed open by two guards, letting the afternoon sun brighten up the darkened cottage. I curse when I find myself blinded by the afternoon sunlight as one of the guards blurts out," The king has requested your presence in the courtroom."
I take a few seconds to process the words said by the guard and another few to consider the probability of me being able to leave the territory if I made a run for it right now. Knowing the odds of me making it out of the territory were slim, I followed the guards as they took me to the palace courtroom.
With every step I take, the echoing whispers of every passerby get louder and louder till it's almost deafening, all the words I tried to ignore for the past few months come rattling in." Look at her... she even smells like filth."
"Only Goddess knows the sins that she's committed."
"Eww.. She's so ugly...let's go away before she gets close."
"Let's all pray she burns in hell for challenging our Queen."
Their words get worse with every passing step I take. I squeeze my eyes shut for a few brief seconds as I try to block out their words.
The doors to the courtroom open, and the enormous room emasculate, like every other inch of the palace. It almost has me wondering if there is even an inch of the palace that wasn't made to perfection, that wasn't made to show the sheer power of the monarchy.
The ceiling of the room was adorned with a tangerine of skilfully painted mountains and land showcasing the Royal pack, in the centre of the ceiling was a crystal chandelier that reflected light coming from the canopy windows, painting the room in warm shades of gold and blue.
Most of the male courtiers wear either an emerald green or navy blue military uniform. Some even wear black, showcasing their close links to the King. On the other hand, the female courtiers wear every shade of every colour imaginable. It's almost disgusting to see so much wealth clustered in one room, I'm almost baffled at the realization that I come from the same filthy wealth that they do.
I am placed in the centre of the room for everyone to ogle and whisper at. The throne sits in front of me. My eyes meet Andria, she is smiling down at me, victory blooming bright in those cold eyes. I have a strange urge to spit on her face and slap that smile away, but I force myself to stand still and tall, knowing what's best.
"Ariana, I hope you are ready to apologize to my beautiful mate," the King thunders out, his voice cold and filled with mirth, as he takes Andria's hand and leaves a feather-like kiss on it, his eyes never leaving mine.
I will myself not to glare at him while standing in the courtroom, but when I see Andria's smile widen the way it always does whenever she gets something I want, something in me snaps, making me glare at them as I grit my teeth together, and before I can stop myself my mouth begins to run itself.
"Yes, I do have to make an apology to make." I say with my head held high, as I showcase a smirk of my own," I have to apologize for being your senile Queen's sister."
Loud gasps are heard around the room, but I don't let them deter me from my goal. If I'm going to dig my own grave, then I want to make it count.
"I want to apologize for being good to you," with every word I say the frown on Andria's face deepens as the King lets out a growl full of anger. Hearing the anger in the king's growl should have been enough to stop me, but I don't, I continue," I apologize for not killing you that night."
The second the words leave my mouth, chaos breaks into the room with ten guards and the King charging toward me.
