I was disappointed but not surprised to learn that Sophie had a boyfriend when I made up the bullshit story about spotting her and her boyfriend at Denny’s. I only said that to see if I could get a sense of whether or not she was taken. Again, I’m disappointed but not surprised. She’s such a cutie. Gay or straight, I would have been surprised if she was single.
That didn’t mean I couldn’t dream, did it? Nor did it mean I couldn’t hope and maybe even try to win the girl over at some point while she sponsored me. I just wasn’t sure how I was going to go about it until I decided to use the app I helped create as a great opportunity to learn what I could about her.
I don’t want to push too hard too fast. I can’t be too obvious. The focus is supposed to be on me and not what’s going on with her, although she did share a little of her own story with me as to how she ended up in AA meetings. She lost her parents to a tragic car accident in her late teens and was devastated. She was in an unhealthy relationship at the time as well, and things were falling apart at the seams all at once. So she started drinking more and more until she realized it was becoming all too comfortable of a problem.
Sometimes I find myself making up reasons to call her, like to tell her I have such a strong urge to drink even though I really don’t, just to hear her voice, have her undivided attention, and maybe learn a little more about her.
I was so excited when I learned that she was to be my sponsor and slowly formed a plan in mind. At first, I was worried I wouldn’t be able to talk her into downloading the app, but to my delight, she did. I love a person that actually does what they say they’re going to do. There will be a catch, however, that she’s unaware of. Yes, she will really be chatting with a bot when I can’t be available to take it over, since I can access anyone’s account unbeknownst to them, whether they’re using it at the moment or not. But when I’m able to control the non-binary pal she created named Jess, the bot will become a real person.

I fish for as much information as I can in a subtle and non-obvious way. So far, I have learned that she’s 37 years old and has been with her current boyfriend, Tyrell, for two years. She has always lived in various parts of Florida. I can tell she’s a bit of a goody-two-shoes, and that if I steer the conversation in a personal direction, it might spook her out. So I hold back on asking her if she’s ever been with a woman or if she’s ever thought of giving it a try.
