I closed my locker and walked over to Nadine and Krista. They seemed to be in a heated conversation.
"Would you like to know an observation that I made?" Nadine asked
"Sure" Krista replied
"Oh, my god, Shannon, your outfit, it's so cute! I love it." Nadine said in a high voice.
"Yeah. Okay." Krista said roller her eyes.
"And you toss me aside? One of the only two people who's had your back since second grade, who's been with you through everything? You know what? Fine, because chances are that those pricks, they're not gonna give a shit about you when Darian drops your ass for someone hotter." Nadine snapped at Krista
"You don't know anything, Nadine." Krista replied.
"It's really shitty to hear. I'm sorry, it's gonna happen." Nadine retorted
"No , I'm sorry. It's not gonna happen, because your brother just asked me to be his girlfriend and to prom in may" Krista said. It was silent for a few seconds before Nadine replied no.
"Yeah, he did. He-he just asked me that." Krista said.
"You can't. Y-you can't have both."
"It's us or him. Pick." Nadine said pointing to us.
"No, I'm...No, I'm not gonna pick." Krista said
"It's us or him Krista. Do you want him or do you want us? Why can't you just say us?" Nadine begged.
"No, i..."
"Him or us now?" Nadine quickly said
"No, I'm not gonna pick." Krista replied
"You know what? Then we're done. We're done Krista" Nadine yelled.
" Fine! " Krista snapped and walked away.
Nadine grabbed her hair and paced back and forth a couple times. She sighed and looked at me. I opened my arms and she came in them and we hugged for a bit.
"It'll be okay Nadine" I whispered.

The bell rang and we went to lunch. Nadine said she'd see me later and that she had to do homework for a teacher. I went to walk outside to eat lunch alone. My life was falling apart. Krista was acting like a whole other person, and Nadine was pushing everyone away. I sat by a tree and sighed. I decided to close my eyes for a little while, when I heard someone sit next to me. I opened my eyes and saw Nick.
"What are you doing here by yourself?" He asked.
"My friends got in a fight with each other" I shrugged.
" What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be with your friends?" I asked.
" They're not really my friends. Plus they're being assholes at the moment" he said.
" I'm sorry to hear that. What did they do?" I asked.
" Nothing important. Just some stupid things I'd rather not talk about" he shrugged.
"Okay" I said.
We just sat in silence for a few minutes. I was watching everything and everyone around me. The world seemed to be moving, but it felt like I was stuck in the same spot. I leaned my head back on the tree and sighed softly. I turned my head to look at Nick, but he was already staring at me.
"What's up?" I asked
Nick was about to reply when the bell interrupted.
"I guess we better get to class" he said.
He stood up off the grass and offered his hand to me. I looked at him and slowly took it. He pulled me up and I grabbed my bag off the floor. We started walking to class when I realized we were still holding hands. I blushed so much my face turned red. I quickly slipped my hand out and pretended to adjust my bag on my shoulder. What is this boy doing to me I thought.
Before I knew it school was over. I started my walk home. While walking I started thinking about everything that happened to me and my friends. We were all falling apart. I didn't know how to fix things. I really wished we could all just be friends again. They were the only real family I had.
I was almost home when my phone started ringing. I saw Nadine was calling so I picked it up.
"Hey Nadine. What's up?" I asked
"I'm at the gas station across from Petland. Wanna come and get slushies with me? I don't feel like being alone" she told me.
" Of course. I'm on my way now. I'll see you in 20" I said changing my course to where Nadine was.
20 minutes later I saw Nadine sitting on the curb right outside the gas station.
"Hey. Ready?" Nadine asked.
I just nodded and we went inside to get out slushies. Nadine and I both got a mix of cherry and blue raspberry. After we paid we went outside to sit and drink our slushies. I casually kept glancing across the street at petland wondering if Nick was working right now. Apparently Nadine noticed this and smirked at me.
"Come one. Let's go Rose" she smiled at me.
"What? We're... we're both gonna go in there? Right now?" I asked her with a shocked face.
" Of course" she smiled.
She grabbed my hand and dragged me in the store. The place was pretty big. She glanced everywhere looking for Nick I assumed. She finally just dragged me over to the fish. We started looking at all the different types of fish they had.
"Oooo look Nadine. It's Nemo!" I whisper-yelled at her.
She came over and laughed. We left that part and went to look at other fishes. As we turned the corner I grabbed Nadine and stopped walking. I saw Nick with a clipboard in his hand probably taking inventory on all the fish. Nadine smirked at me while I just pretend to look at the fish. Of course I secretly kept glancing at Nick though. Nadine suddenly grabbed me and pushed me towards Nick. I stumbled and he heard. He looked up at me and smiled.
"Uhh..hey....um...c-could you point me in the direction of the cat litter" I asked not looking him in the eyes.
"Its eight I think" he replied
"I-I don't... I don't really need the cat litter. I was just joking. I just, um...I don't even know why I said that. I don't even have a cat. I just know that they shit a bunch, so... i like your shoes...sorry that was random" I rambled on nervously. I looked back and saw Nadine was gone. I suddenly felt something grab my hand. I quickly whipped my head around to see what grabbed it. I saw it was Nick's hand. I shyly looked up at him.
"It's nice to see you here Rose" he said
"Y-yeah...my friend wanted to..uhhh...look at the fish. She's not really...looking for a big pet so..."I mumbled blushing.
" Oh..about later today..I kinda have to work late tonight. Is okay if we reschedule our date to Friday?" He asked
" Oh uhh... yeah sure. That's fine...wait...date?" I asked
" Yeah. I thought...I'd rather us go on a date instead of...just hanging out..I like you rose" he told me.
I shyly looked down at our hands and whispered "okay...I kinda like you too"
"Well...I'd love to just stay here and be with you all day, but... unfortunately i have to go back to work" he said while running his thumb over the top of my hand.
"Okay... I'll uh...I'll see you tomorrow at school" I said smiling
"Bye Rose" he said while walking away back to work.
I quickly turned around and saw Nadine's head around the corner. I rushed over to her.
