When I say brick wall, I meant it. You know how when you're in high school and you wanna ask the cutest girl to a dance, and all of her friends get in the way, forming a blockade of some sort leaving you no possible way of getting past the wall?
Yeah that's not at all what this is like actually
Anna Carols was a nuisance. Loud (I mean, obviously.), talkative, and always acted like a 2nd-grader (Still does, in fact). She had straight, long brown hair, and wide black eyes. Her white but shaded skin was visible as she always worse short-sleeved shirts, which revealed her long and lanky body. Worst of all, she was best friends with Caitlyn. I was haunted knowing that wherever Caitlyn was, Anna was following close by.
I was completely ticked off because of her. I realized that after a week. Did I try to talk to Caitlyn at all that week? Pfft, no, of course not! That'd be stupid! I'd be entering basically the underworld if I tried to talk to her.
So I went straight to the underworld.
"Are you Caitlyn?"
Ha, silly me. Of course it was her. I knew who she was, I didn't need to ask her for her name. I walked up to her during our recess period, and now I'm talking to her. This is great. I've accomplished so much.
"Yeah, you're... Alan, right?"
OH MY GOD SHE KNOWS MY NAME oh right im the one who made a fool of myself on the first day of school
"Oh, you knew my name. Cool. Uh, so I wanted to ask you something."
"Hmm?"
"You see, well, why are you so... cute?"
Ah, well. That was a good life.
Yeah, I asked her this. No, I ain't kidding. I asked her this question. Why did I feel like asking that? How did I even expect her to respond to me? Did I even expect her to respond to me?
"W-What?"
Oh, cool, she did respond. Eh, I'm too flustered to talk to you now. I'm leaving.
I left. My face was flushed red. I was blushing. Hard. When I get embarrassed or emotional (which happens... easily), my face gets very, very red. My mom's rosy cheeks and my dad's flustered face contributed to how red my face gets.
I left recess to walk back up to the class. You can go inside during recess anyway, so what was the harm? Sure, we were all supposed to re-enter the building at the same time, but I didn't care. I was gonna walk back to class and slam my face back down onto my desk.
Someone was following me. It would've been smart to make sure who it was, but I didn't. Instead of glancing my head back, I decided to just... run.
I ran, hoping a teacher didn't see me or the person behind me running in the halls. Wait, wouldn't the person behind me getting caught be a good thing? Wait, no, what if it was... Caitlyn? No, why would she be following me?
"Hey, stop running!"
I heard someone (probably the stalker) behind me yell. I didn't turn around and continued running, turning the corner of the hallway. I bumped into a teacher. Whoops. She didn't spill her coffee, so no casualties, but she did ask why I was running so fast. I came up with 'having to use the bathroom'. Real creative. She told me to stop running and I slowed down.
The person behind me must have seen me getting scolded and slowly crept their way closer. After the teacher left the proximity, they made their move.
"Do you have a crush on Caitlyn?"
"Nope."
I said, without turning around. I didn't need to see who they were, they ran up closer to me to walk right next to me. It was Anna Carols. Of course it was her.
"But didn't you just ask-"
"Nope."
"You sure?"
"Yup."
"Are you sure you're sure?"
"Uh huh."
"You sure you sure you s-"
"Yes! Why does it matter?"
She was irritating. I started to become a little bit bitter towards her. Actually, I started to get a little bitter towards a lot of people. Maybe it's puber-
We were walking side by side, so I was already irritated by the fact that she was so close to me. And asking so many questions was also obviously getting annoying.
"Well, Caitlyn and I are friends. So do you have a crush on Caitlyn?"
"No! How is 'we're friends' an answer? You completely avoided answering my question!"
"Because."
"That isn't-"
"If you like her, I'll tell you she likes you back."
"Wait, wait, wait, what?"
"No, of course not. I was joking, hehe. But now that you said that, do you like her?"
"Why am I even talking to you?"
"Because I'm asking you a question."
"I answered your question."
"No."
"Yes, I did."
We were almost in the classroom. She was probably going to bug me during class too, so the plan failed. Oh, I could use the book strategy to ignore her- no, there was another problem. Recess just started as soon as I asked Caitlyn that... question... and so it would be a while before recess ended. This meant that I would have to spend about half an hour sitting in a classroom alone with the grueling Anna Carols. So the only logical solution I came up with was to walk back outside to try and find friends that could distract me (I could have also just... gone to the bathroom, but did I think of that? No. I'm not that smart. Besides, she could have just waited outside the bathroom... well, she would probably get bored, right? It's too late now, of course, I'll just have to try the bathroom strategy for another time. When? You'll have to find that out later.)
"We're walking back now?"
She saw me take a 180 and continued the conversation.
"No, I am. You can stay here."
"I'm not staying here, it's boring. Can we go back outside for recess?"
"That's what I was planning on doing."
"Great, let's go!"
"No, I said I'm going there alone. Stop following me."
"I'm not following you, you're following me!"
She ran ahead of me and made it look like I was the slower walker. Oh, I'll show you. I dashed forwards and now I was in front. She ran ahead of me, then I proved I was faster, the cycle repeated for a while. Children.
"Aren't you the one that wanted to ask me a question?"
"Yeah, I want an answer."
"You... just ignored what we just talked about a minute ag-"
"Yes or no?"
"NO! STOP ASKING ME!"
I yelled at her. She didn't look surprised, but the teachers around us did. A teacher politely called out to me,
"Excuse me young man, don't yell in the hallways."
Anna snorted. I glared back at her.
"Yes, ma'am,"
I said with a kind voice. I motioned to Anna to continue walking and she followed me. Ha! I win!
"Why are you following me?"
"I'm not following you, I'm just walking back to recess."
"Whatever."
We walked outside and she continued following me. I started to walk faster. She walked faster. I ran. She ran. Ha ha! We can't get yelled at for running outside, that's not against the rules! I was running faster than her, but I started to go too fast that I couldn't see the people I was running by. I needed to find them quickly. I needed to find literally any of my friends. And trust me, I had plenty of friends. Either everyone was hiding, or they were all gathered in one place. Of course they were. At the time I needed them the most.
"Where... are they? I need to... escape"
(Obviously out of breath) I whispered to myself. Anna was still following me. Ugh.
"You know what you are?"
"What am I?"
"Annoying."
That was a good one, me.
"That's not very nice."
"You're not very nice."
"Rude. What's nice about Caitlyn?"
"Hey, I never said I liked her."
"I never said you did, I was just asking what you liked about her. But you do like her, right?"
"No."
"Is she cute?"
"Why would I tell you?"
"She is cute! Wow, you really like her!"
"Excu-what? No?!"
"Am I right?"
"No, you're such- you're so annoying!"
4th graders and their arguments. Annoying huh? Don't worry, it'll get even worse. A lot of stupid conversations are gonna... happen.
So I couldn't find any of my friends.
"Can't find your friends?"
"Why do you care? Wait ho-"
"I'll tell you where they are if you come with me to talk to Caitlyn."
"Why would I need to see my friends?"
"Let me guess, so you can escape me?"
HOW DID SHE oh i said it out loud
"Caitlyn's near the playground, let's go-"
After she finished talking, I decided to follow her. I knew there was no way she knew where my friends were, but I might get a second chance at talking to Caitlyn.
Okay, I followed Anna and now Caitlyn's sitting right in front of me. Got it. Don't mess up, just shoot for it.
"Oh, uh, hi, what did you want?"
"But you came to me?"
"Right. Uh, sorry about earlier. You can completely ignore that."
She nodded her head, and I looked around. I saw Anna staring at me, making it seem like she wanted me to continue. Of course I wanted to, so I asked my second question.
"You, uh, wanna be... friends?"
Anna snorted.
"Shut up, An- You know what? Never mind. I'm leaving."
"Wait-"
I left before Caitlyn could finish. Not the smartest, I know. Definitely not the safest either. Actually, leaving might have been the worst decision. Why did I leave? Ugh, whatever, I didn't look behind me... just in case. Hopefully this time Anna would get the memo that I didn't want her to follow me.
"Come back!"
She didn't get the memo.
"Did you just ask her to be friends with her?"
No I didn't
"Uh, no? I don't even want to talk to her."
"Even though you like her?"
"I don't like her!"
She rolled her eyes before continuing.
"Wanna be friends with me?"
"Why would I ever want to be friends with you?"
"I could help you become Caitlyn's boyfriend."
"You probably can't even help yourself. Why would you want to help me?"
"Because..."
Oh no
"Caitlyn likes you!"
"What?!"
"Just kidding."
She's getting on my nerves.
