"This is the dumbest dare ever," I thought to myself as I approached the abandoned building of Okami High School, staring at it's antiquity. "Why did I even agree to this? Is it because my friends are the ones that gave me the dare? Everyone knows this place is off limits after what happened 20 years ago! I shouldn't have even considered it! Now, it's too late for me to back out. I just hope that my fiance doesn't freak out when I get home late. I must be crazy to accept a dare like this," I thought to myself as I went inside, my heart pounding uncontrollably in my chest.
The halls of Okami High were dark and empty. The silence felt oppressive, like a thick blanket that smothered every step. Every now and then, a creak or thud echoed from the abandoned corridors, sending chills down my spine. I couldn't shake the feeling that I was being watched. Every shadow seemed to flicker and dance, as if some hidden presence was moving within them. My heart thumped louder in my chest as I walked deeper into the maze of empty classrooms.
The silence was shattered by a muffled cry from down the hall. The sudden noise sent me darting behind a locker, my heart racing in my chest. Was it my imagination? There was no sign of the source, just the same eerie shadows that seemed to reach out for me. The cry was replaced by a low, guttural sound. It was a strange mix of a moan and a growl, like something between a wounded animal and a human's voice. I tried to convince myself it was just the wind, but the pit in my stomach screamed otherwise.
I cautiously started moving again, my footsteps as soft as I could manage. The sound grew louder, and I could almost make out words amidst the groans. I strained my ears, trying to understand what was being said. Suddenly, the noise stopped. A dead silence fell over the hall. I stood there, paralyzed with fear. The absence of sound was more terrifying than the noise itself. Just as I built up the courage to move, a loud bang came from behind me. I whirled around to see the door at the end of the hall slammed shut, the sound of the impact echoing through the empty halls.
"Hello?" I called out, waiting for a response. Nothing. Nobody responded, and I started sweating uncontrollably. "Hello?" I said again, waiting a few more moments. Still nothing.
My mind raced. There was no one else in the building, so it couldn't be a student or a teacher. The thought that it could be something else sent a chill down my spine. I took a cautious step backwards towards the hallway, my mind going through all the possibilities. The fear I felt earlier was nothing compared to the terror that gripped me now. I wasn't alone; Something was in the school with me, and it wasn't human.
Suddenly, I heard a soft, wet sound behind me. I spun around, my heart pounding wildly in my chest. The hall was empty, but the sound was unmistakable; Slow, deliberate footsteps were headed in my direction. I tried to run, but my legs felt like weights. The hall seemed to stretch on forever, the footsteps coming closer with each passing second. The light in the hall began to flicker, casting bizarre shadows that danced menacingly.
In the intermittent flashes of light, I caught glimpses of something moving at the end of the hall. It was tall, almost unnaturally so, with long, spindly limbs that seemed to writhe and tangle as it moved with a fluid, almost inhuman grace. I forced myself to run, my breathing coming in short, ragged, painful gasps as I sprinted through the halls, noting the long fissures in the walls and floor. The creature was gaining on me, it's footsteps getting louder, faster, and closer. I couldn't even tell if I was running towards safety or deeper into danger.
I reached the end of the hall, my heart hammering in my chest. A door to the outside was in sight, a thin ray of moonlight pooling on the floor. It was so close, but the creature was even closer, it's footsteps mere feet behind me. I lunged for the door, my sweaty palms slipping off the metal handle. I frantically tried to rend it open, and my panic increased when it wouldn't budge. Upon hearing the sickening sound of claws scraping against the floor behind me, I tried even harder to no avail.
I started panicking as I yanked on the door with all of my strength. "Come on. Come on!" I said as I continued struggling with the door. My fears remained unvoiced as I silently implored the door to entreat me access to the outside. The sound of the creature crashing down the hall as it pursued me was tumultuous, but I didn't dare to look behind me. I continued pulling on the door, attempting to tear its hinges asunder to no avail while my heart was pounding wildly in my chest.
The creature was upon me now, its hot, putrid breath sending a wave of nausea over me. I turned around just as it lunged, its long, gnarled fingers digging into my skin as it pinned me to the floor. I could see its twisted face contorted into a horrible smile, its eyes glowing a bright, vibrant, blood-red color. Pain wracked my body as it sank its claws into me, slowly tearing me apart while I screamed in agony.
Suddenly, I sat up in my bed, soaked in sweat, breathing heavily, and screaming. I frantically looked around, completely terrified. I slowly relaxed as I realized that it was a nightmare. I was having the same nightmare for the past several days, and it always felt so real. I could still feel the creature's claws ripping me apart as I got out of bed and went to the kitchen, getting myself a glass of milk. I ate some Oreos and finished my milk before going back to my room. "No more horror movies before bed," I mumbled to myself as I laid back down and fell asleep, unaware that my nightmare would soon become reality.
