Me and the others were silent as we went to the front office. I walked over to the filing cabinet, and my eyes widened as I opened it. "This is ridiculous," I said as I started going through the files and setting them aside.
"I know," Rebecca said as she watched me. "It's honestly shocking how much stuff was left behind."
"It doesn't matter," Jessica said with a scoff. "No one is deranged enough to come here anymore."
"That doesn't make it any less unnerving," Jake said with a scowl.
"Jake is right," Molly said with a shudder. "Something about this place is just really creepy."
"I don't like this place either," Max said as he put his hoodie on.
"No... It can't be," I mumbled as I froze completely.
"Ace? What's wrong?" Rebecca asked as she placed her hand on my shoulder.
Tears filled my eyes as I took a student file out of the cabinet. "Kyran Kaedehara is my older brother," I said as I opened my brother's file. "He went missing a few days before this place was shut down, and he hasn't been found."
"You told us about him," Max said as everyone sat with me. Jessica is the only one that didn't move.
"He's the one that taught you how to use a bow and arrow. Right?" Molly asked with a smile.
"He sounds pretty fucking awesome to me," Jake said with a grin.
"He is," I said with a smile. "Me and Kyran were never like the rest of our family. We've always been... different," I said as I closed the file. "If I show you something, do you promise not to freak out?"
"Of course!" Rebecca said with a smile.
"Totally, dude!" Jake said with a thumbs up.
"I'll try," Molly said shyly.
"I can't promise that I won't be surprised, but I promise that I won't judge," Max said with a smile.
"Whatever," Jessica mumbled as she rolled her eyes.
"Okay," I said with a nod as I stood up. I took a deep breath and closed my eyes, relaxing my body. I did a backflip and turned into a black owl, spreading my wings as I landed on the floor. I stayed like that for a moment before turning back. "Me and Kyran are Cambiantes mágicos, or Magic shifters," I said as I held my brother's file tightly. "We can turn into anything, even monsters of our own making."
Everyone stared at me in shock and amazement, even Jessica. They all started talking at once, praising me for my abilities, scolding me for hiding it from them, and asking me questions about what I could do. I laughed and calmed them down, answering their questions one at a time.
"If your brother is a Magic shifter as well, maybe he's the cause of all of this," Molly said as she looked at me.
"That's actually pretty smart, for a loser," Jessica said with a smirk. "If he can turn into anything, that monstrous beast that we saw earlier might have actually been him."
"If that was my brother, something is seriously wrong," I said with a frown. "He must've been corrupted like our late ancestors," I thought to myself as I put the files away and locked the cabinet. "Let's go."
