I sighed as I parked outside the abandoned High School. Rebecca was in the front passenger seat, and everyone else was in the backseat. I turned the engine off and got out of the car, putting the keys in my pocket. I opened the trunk and pulled 6 flashlights out of the large box.
"What?" I asked as I noticed everyone staring at me. "My brothers like to go camping a lot, and I explore abandoned buildings all the time," I said with a shrug. "I can never have too many flashlights."
Rebecca smiled at me and grabbed a flashlight. "At least you're calm and prepared. It shows how much you've grown since High School," she said as she hugged me.
"Rebecca is right," Max said as he grabbed a flashlight. "You're not as hot-headed as you were in High School. You're calmer, and you think things out. It shows how much you've matured."
Molly and Jake nodded as they grabbed their flashlights, but Jessica just rolled her eyes and snatched a flashlight.
"Whatever," Jessica said with a sneer as she walked away. "Let's just get this over with, freaks."
I exchanged a glance with the others, and we rolled our eyes as we followed her. I pulled a pin off of my shirt and picked the lock, opening the door for the others. "Piece of cake," I said calmly as I went inside with everyone. "Alright. Molly and Jessica will search this end of the school," I said as I pointed at the map on the wall. "Jake and Max will search the middle area of the school," I said as I circled the middle of the school on the map. "Me and Rebecca will search the far end of the school. Everyone will meet in the cafeteria when we're done. Got it?" I said as I looked at everyone. Once everyone agreed, we split up and got to work.
"Are you sure this is a good idea, Ace?" Rebecca asked as we went to the far end of the building. "You know what happens when peeple split up in the horror movies! What if something happens to us or the others?"
"Settle down, Rebecca," I said as I rubbed her back and helped her calm down. "If anything happens, we'll figure it out when it does happen," I said calmly. "Instead of worrying ourselves sick, or driving ourselves crazy with terror, let's focus on what we're doing right now. Okay?"
"Okay. You're right," Rebecca said as she calmed down. Together, we searched the far end of the building. I found some old games, and Rebecca found an old laptop.
Meanwhile, Jake and Max searched the classrooms in the middle of the building.
"The place is creepy, dude," Max said as he dug through an old closet with Jake.
"I know, but it's kinda cool too," Jake said with a grin as he pulled out an old repair kit for a computer processing unit.
At the same time, Molly and Jessica were searching the front office. Jessica didn't want to get dirty, so Molly was doing most of the work.
"Files?" Molly mumbled as she opened a filing cabinet. "These are student files!" She exclaimed as she checked the folders. "These have a ton of personal and private information in them! Why are they sitting in an unlocked cabinet? Anyone could find these and take them!"
"Who the hell knows? This place has been abandoned for years. No one ever comes here because of the disappearances," Jessica said in an irritated tone. "It's none of our business, so leave the files alone."
"Okay," Moly said as she put the files back and closed the cabinet.
Eventually, everyone finished looking around and went to the cafeteria.
"I found some old games, and Rebecca found an old laptop. They're good for entertainment, but they're not much use for surviving." I said once everyone was there. "Did any of you guys find anything?"
"Me and Max found an old repair kit for a computer processing unit," Jake said as he set the rapair kit on the table.
"That's actually in really good condition!" I said as I grabbed the repair kit off the table and examined it. "With this repair kit, I should be able to fix the generator in the front office, so we'll be able to charge the batteries in our flashlights. I can also fix the mictowave in the kitchen, so we can make something to eat," I said with a smile.
"Me and Jessica found a cabinet full of student files in the front office," Molly said as she sat down. "We didn't find anything else, but the filing cabinet was unlocked. Anyone could've taken those files and used the information for god knows what."
"She's right," Jessica said reluctantly. "The cabinet was unlocked. Hell, it wasn't even closed. None of the files were missing, but that just makes it even weirder."
Just then, a large, monstrous beast runs past the cafeteria.
"Woah, what the hell?!" Max exclaimed.
"What the hell was that?!" Jessica screamed.
"Something isn't right here," I said with a scowl. "If the cabinet was open, that means someone else was already here, and I have a feeling it was the beast we just saw. That would also explain why there were wrappers and empty containers all over the halls and the rooms," I said as I pulled a notepad out of my pocket. "Let's go to the front office together. I need to know the truth."
