A glass heart

She tucks beneath her coat

And carries it around

With quiet pride

-

Today she reminds herself

To smile through the tears

Lest the fragile heart break

Sending shards digging into her solid chest

-

Her grin is frozen on her face

As she imagines plucking out the pieces

Of her once most prized possession

Now damaged far beyond repair

-

A reverse grenade

That's what they call it

Set it off to explode

And only end up hurting yourself

-

And even though her heart is glass

It doesn't deserve to be broken

So please let her walk happily along

With that tired little crystal heart
